Related: About this forumFrank Bruni's excellent response to the Cynthia Nixon fume
Genetic or Not, Gay Wont Go AwayOur laws safeguard religious freedom, and thats not because theres a Presbyterian, Buddhist or Mormon gene. Theres only a tradition and theology that you elect or decline to follow. But this country has deemed worshiping in a way that feels consonant with who you are to be essential to a persons humanity. So its protected.
Our laws also safeguard the right to bear arms: not exactly a biological imperative.
Among adults, the right to love whom youre moved to love and to express it through sex and maybe, yes, marriage is surely as vital to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness as a Glock. And its a lot less likely to cause injury, if thats a deciding factor: how a persons actions affect the community around him or her.

However, I think what Cynthia said was hurtful to our community because there are kids out there that are struggling and when they hear its a choice it will make them feel as if they can change. I know for me and everyone I have ever known that was gay that is was not a choice. She should have just said she is Bi.
