San Diego’s New Mayor Is A Gay Man And That’s Making The Right Crazy

Right on cue, freeper heads explode. There is (IMHO) one inaccuracy in the article. You can't make freepers crazy. They already are.

With the news of Bob Filner’s resignation bringing an end to a turbulent six weeks of scandal in San Diego, we discover who will step in to fill the office. His name is Todd Gloria. He is the President of the City Council and will become acting Mayor once Filner’s resignation goes into effect on August 30th. Gloria is from two military families – a common situation in the Navy-oriented city – and his ancestry bears this out: he is Native Alaskan, Filipino, Dutch and Puerto Rican, with all four grandparents making their way to San Diego from vastly different places. That, right there, is enough to make right-wing heads spin but when you add that he is gay… can you hear the heads exploding?

“I appreciate folks being patient while we dealt with this,” said Gloria, who was interviewed along with [Councilman Kevin]Faulconer on KUSI-TV Saturday. “All this backsliding in recent months is over. We’re going to get back to doing the people’s business. That starts next Friday.”

Speaking about Filner’s scandal and subsequent resignation, Gloria indicated that he felt the former Mayor had lost control and was no longer an effective public servant. Todd Gloria, on the other hand, is an exemplary public servant. Chair of the city’s Budget and Finance Committee, former Housing Commissioner and twice named San Diego’s Best Elected Official, Gloria sounds like exactly what the shaken city needs.

4. Gloria is an all around good guy

I have spoken to him several times, as has my partner. He knows us by first name, and addresses us by first name when ever we run into him, be it at the gym our or anywhere else. The only worry I have about him is he tends to side with big developers (Balboa Park...), but outside of that he has been a fantastic city council member.
