Gay Country Singer Reveals Ex-Gay Therapy Past

Steve Grand opens up about his painful past in a new interview with ABC.

Steve Grand became an overnight sensation when his gay-themed music video, “All American Boy,” went viral shortly after being posted on YouTube last week.

The video has racked up more than 650,000 views in just six days—an accomplishment on par with some of the most successful artists currently working in the music industry.

However, the independent singer/songwriter wasn’t always as comfortable with his sexuality as he appears in his hit video, and has revealed to ABC that he once endured so-called gay-to-straight reparative therapy after he told his family he was gay.

"I felt like I really was a shame to my parents," Grand said. "I felt like there was no way I could ever make them proud and I felt like I was a constant disappointment."

I found out he existed as a C and W singer yesterday and he's being featured by ABC today.

Not to minimize his struggle.... but that is FAST.

I have no problem admitting he's a pretty damn fine looking guy. Not really my type, though (I'm more of a fan of "cute," slightly nerdy and a little bit foul... well, women).

Now, if a C&W singer sang about trying to pick up a chick and she turned out to be gay, it would end in a 3-way, as we all know all gay women secretly love men...

Makes me think of Lou Reed (my avatar obviously) who underwent electroshock "therapy" for "homosexual tendencies" as a teenager, but that was in the 50's for Christ's sake! Really appalling that we still haven't put this sort of thing behind us, as a society.

The pain he still feels really cut me deeply. I'm so glad he's pulling out of that and into a place of light and healing.

And yeah, he is quite easy on the eyes. Waaayyyy young but hellyeah I'll look.

PS: William769 - I still envy his abs!

I have worked down from a keg to a half-case since January. A little over 35 pounds gone not much to go now; maybe 5 or 10 more. A decade ago, my late hubby had a six-pack like Grand's. Verrry delightful. Always wanted some of my own

Yup. I'm actually watching my diet and exercising. That chill you've felt in the air was hell freezing over.
