West Hollywood to offer free wedding ceremonies Monday
With same-sex weddings set to resume in Southern California after a nearly five-year ban, the city of West Hollywood said it would waive fees on marriage ceremonies performed in its council chambers during a six-hour stretch Monday.
"We wanted to make getting married as easy as possible," said Mayor Abbe Land, who along with City Council members and officials, will be temporarily sworn in to help officiate at the weddings.
Couples with a marriage license from the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder will be eligible to get married without a fee from 1 to 7 p.m. Monday in council chambers at the West Hollywood Library at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard.
The city also said it will provide is free shuttle service between the city and the closest county registrar-recorder branch at 9355 Burton Way in Beverly Hills. The shuttle service is scheduled to run from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m.; the registrar-recorder's office is scheduled to issue licenses from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
