I wrote three books, all with transgender female protagonists.
I sell a few everyday and for the most part I have enjoyed writing and all the activities associated with publishing your own work. It is not unlike being transgender. In self-publishing despite everyone saying they support you and for the most part they do, you really are at it alone and always at the mercy of spoken and unspoken criticism if not outright denigration by the community at large. Same holds for being trans.
You can find out more about my books links to retailers, as well as short stories, excerpts from upcoming books and other tidbits about being trans and self-publishing eBooks at the link.
The thing about being trans is that once you really start the process part of the shock comes to find how quickly you lose friends, jobs, family and above all respect. I hope that by writing books with trans characters I can add to the body of stories that help remove the social stigma that seems to follow us around like a dark cloud. Despite that I am hopeful and very pleased to see the body of LGBT fiction growing by leaps and bounds. Even the 'T' is getting some trickle down. Our best bet always has been to hang with our gay, bi and lesbian friends. We have a long way to go to achieve the acceptance that Gay men and women have, but we are moving forward.
Lambda Literary finally introduced an award category for Trans Fiction. Novels no longer have to compete with technical non-fiction and biographies. It is also the first time time actual transgender writers received the award. This lag in recognition simply highlights the long struggle Trans folk have had all the more the need for continued nurturing by the wider LGBT community. The future is looking up barriers of discrimination towards transgender persons is being whittled away by the tireless efforts of LGBT activists around the globe.
Thanks for your time.

(27,670 posts)I enjoy unique romance stories.
I have to confess, I'm not much into M/M romance stories. I generally prefer, and relate to, stories with female protagonists written from a woman's perspective, like in Razor Cut.
Thanks!
