(53,991 posts)One of them missed us by about 15 miles. It makes me madder than a wet hen when they start blaming gays for shit like this (of course, I have to say I am pretty offended by people making jokes or saying we deserve this because we are a "red state." .
(The last part of my comments were not directed at this OP!)

(8,462 posts)I'm not a Christian, but I grew up in that tradition and though I'm now an atheist, this is something that has stuck with me.
He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust."

(8,462 posts)the quote I listed is from the Sermon on the Mount, which to me is the core of the Christian message. Too bad it's mostly been contaminated by including Leviticus the letters from Paul in the mix.

(22,057 posts)were less than half a mile from a F5 monster that tore through Jones county Mississippi. Hit at 10:00am and destroyed an elementary school-on a Saturday morning. We were lucky that day. Today you guys weren't.
You're in our thoughts. Be safe.

(53,991 posts)I have live here off and on for 13 years, I have never seen a day quite like this! I cleared out the tornado closet, and got everybody ready to go there if need be (one partner, one cat, and 4 dogs...I would have to move the bird cages). I was really worried because my partner was still at work when the first warning came in, but the company then allowed everyone to go home if they could (several couldn't because the highway going to Tulsa was a mess). We had one touch down about 15 miles south of us, but it wasn't big, and we didn't get any ill effects.
I can say, this was a scary day.

(22,057 posts)God knows I hope so. In central Mississippi we're too far inland for hurricanes to be much of a danger, too high up for serious flooding and we're at the far end of the New Madrid fault so earthquakes are not a problem. Tornadoes are the only real devastating danger we face but they are nearly as bad down here as they are where you are.
Bad weather freaks me out like nothing else. So very glad you guys made it through unscathed!

(53,991 posts)I have never seen one storm with so many supercells! It was fucking freaky. I hope it does peter out (heehee..peter), because it was nasty.
I am OK sometimes with bad weather, but I prefer hurricanes because I can prepare, and they are usually more predictable. Oh, do keep in mind, even if it loses steam, there is LOTS of lightning with it!
Stay safe and just have a plan.

(22,057 posts)I'm 59 and still giggle when my partner says any of those silly ass words that make 12 year olds giggle but it's just the way it is. We are who we are and being silly when you get the chance isn't a bad thing, at least in my opinion...
it just means you haven't let yourself grow old. Life is far too sad, short and serious not to laugh whenever you get the chance

(53,991 posts)My partner can't say "wolf" he says "woof" and it makes me giggle every time. He used to refuse to say it, now he does it to make me giggle.
A good giggle is always a nice thing.
