About the anti-bullying policy:

The "Stand Up Together" message was included in a week of activities aimed at helping the 570 students in the K-5 school understand how to halt teasing, bullying and making fun of other people.

"We should accept everybody for what they are," said Isabella Pobieglo, a fourth-grader wearing a pink shirt with black letters reading, "Stand Up Together."

That's the slogan of the Bully Help Initiatives organization begun in Canada in 2008. The organization adopted the pink shirts after two high school students in Nova Scotia, Travis Price and David Shepherd, stood up for another student who was bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school. The next day, Price and Shepherd convinced all the seniors to wear pink shirts.

A North parent, Denise McCloud, proposed the anti-bullying program after hearing news reports of 11- and 13-year-olds who committed suicide after bullying episodes. Relatives in British Columbia had told her about Canada's anti-bullying efforts. She helped plan North's program with Principal Tom Klansnic and school counselor Nancy DeClark.

About his firing:
Several years ago, during his seventh year as principal, Klansnic and his wife divorced. He revealed to family and friends that he is gay. Snyder said Klansnic's supervisors’ treatment of her client changed dramatically in wake of the revelation.

Snyder points out that her client's contract with the district had been renewed twice without performance complaints before he revealed he was gay.

"He's had a great deal of difficulty getting specifics as to what he has failed to do to meet performance expectations," Snyder said.

Klansnic will finish out the year as principal at North Gresham Elementary School, his attorney said.

The Gresham Barlow School District said it could not comment on a personnel matter.

The Principal is suing the school board.
I hope he wins.

These kinds of lawsuits can go on for years before there's an out-of-court settlement for what amounts to a pittance.

OR the board could just renew his contract, and move on, after all,

this school board is actually bullying their own school principal.
