Not all churches are Christian, nor are all Christians homophobic (or all homophobes Christian). Some churches perform gay marriages in states where it's legal, and gay commitment ceremonies in states where it is not recognized. This kind of lumping together of all Christians into one intolerant lump is ignorant, as ignorant as lumping all of any kind of people (black, Muslim, Jew, Latino, Asian) together. Rigby could have said the same thing by saying "some Christians" instead of "the church." There is no one church.

There are lots of churches. I distrust commentary that presumes readers/viewers will just sort of 'get it'. If you mean the Vatican, say so. If you mean Mormons, say so.

But I disgress.

...and the Bible is irredeemably homophobic. Nothing changes that.

That was all Paul in the New Testament. One guy. And just as most Christians don't follow every law and letter laid down in the bible regarding shell fish, tattoos, and rape, I would guess most Christians don't buy Paul's homophobic rants. The bible was never meant to be a weapon, but even the most benign items can hurt people. You'll be wanting to ban toys and cars next.

And toys? Come on. Everyone loves toys. No need to bring them into this.

See the link I provided!

All I'm saying is that broad-brushed generalizations are just that: broad-brushed. The world is not black and white, and there are Christians of all stripes out there. Just because some choose to use the bible as a weapon doesn't mean every Christian does, and they shouldn't be all lumped together.

But feel free to continue your stereotyping. You're not alone. You're just stereotyping for the other side.

And feel free to continue your support of an organization that despises you. You've found a way to identify with your oppressors, so kudos on that. Please understand, though, if most of us don't share your gift of cognitive dissonance.

Have a blessed day!

But just because I abhor wearing high heels (for instance), that doesn't mean I can't appreciate an updated classic style.

And just in case you think I'm just talking out of my arse, pretending to be something I'm not, here is a DU post from 2007 where I self-identify as pagan and reject Jesus' divinity. But do feel free to continue making sweeping assumptions about people you don't know. I'm sure it's more comfortable than acknowledging you might be blinded by your own prejudices.
