Obama Joins Chorus Of Voices Calling For Boy Scouts To End Gay Ban
President Obama opposes the Boy Scouts of America’s current ban on gay members and leaders, a spokesperson told the Washington Blade today.
“The President believes the Boy Scouts is a valuable organization that has helped educate and build character in American boys for more than a century,” clarified Shin Inouye of the White House Office of Communications. “He also opposes discrimination in all forms, and as such opposes this policy that discriminates on basis of sexual orientation.”
As is customary for sitting presidents, Obama currently serves as Honorary President of the Boy Scouts.
Earlier this week, a Romney spokesperson reiterated that the GOP candidate stands by his 1994 statement that, “all people should be able to participate in the Boy Scouts regardless of their sexual orientation.”
