The John Travolta sex scandal has exploded with a new report that the actor had a six-year gay affair with his pilot.
Travolta and Doug Gotterba were lovers in the 1980s, according to Travoltas former secretary and Gotterbas ex boyfriend. The article is in the new issue of the National Enquirer, which hits newsstands Friday.
Joan Edwards was Travoltas secretary from 1978 to 1994 and is the first ex-employee to publicly say the actor is gay. I did everything for him, including taking care of his personal and professional schedules. Of course I knew he was gay. It never bothered me, she is quoted as telling the Enquirer.
She also says she was aware of Travolta's affair with Gotterba, who began working for the actor in 1981. "That's how I met Doug. We both worked for John at the same time. Doug is a wonderful guy and we are still good friends. He told me that John was gay and they had a sexual relationship," she said.

(102,359 posts)It isn't as though he's been anti-GLBT--at least as far as I have been able to determine and he seems like a genuinely good guy, who may well be gay or more likely IMO, bisexual. But, there is such glee attached to every new story or accusation. Why is this not his decision as to whether or not he wishes to reveal more about his sexual orientation and private life?

NOBODY is so naive these days that they are unaware of the notion of bisexuality, or even what is euphemistically referred to as "situational homosexuality".

(17,483 posts)So why the double standard with Travolta?
The media should treat gay and straight celebrities in exactly the same way. If they are going to pry into the private lives of celebrities, which they of course do, then gay, in the closet celebrities, are fair game.
The double standard needs to die a quick death. If someone chooses to be in the public eye this is just part of the price of fame and fortune.

I love John Travolta for who he is and his acting career, not because he's Gay or straight.

(35,568 posts)I'm sick of magazines digging for every salacious detail to titillate sales and filing it under *entertainment*.
I'm against anyone being outed until they're ready. Two men tried to blackmail him, it already backfired on one of them and he withdrew his claims. The other's in settlement talks. Now the media's just being vindictive and more blackmailers are smelling easy money.
In 2012, how can the fact that Hollywood is full of LGBTers still be news?
