What the Scott Walker Recall Vote Could Mean for LGBT People.

Wisconsin Governor Pushes To End Hospital Visitation For Gay Couples

If you weren't convinced Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is heinous by that time he tried to strip teachers, firefighters, social workers, and other government employees of their collective bargaining rights, this should do it: Now he's fighting to make it so gay people can't visit their partners in the hospital.

Walker wants the state to stop defending its domestic partner registry on the grounds that it isn't constitutional. Some background from the Associated Press:

Members of the conservative group Wisconsin Family Action filed a lawsuit last summer arguing the registry violates the state's constitutional ban on gay marriage. Former Gov. Jim Doyle, a Democrat who proposed the registry as a means of granting same-sex couples more legal rights, chose to defend the measure and had filed a motion asking Dane County Circuit Judge Daniel Moeser for summary judgment upholding it. Walker, a Republican, inherited the case from Doyle when he took office in January.

Last week Walker filed legal documents saying the registry shouldn't be defended because it mimics marriage, and is thus unconstitutional. The list, which included about 1,330 couples at the end of 2009, allows same-sex couples the right to visit each other in hospitals, make end-of-life decisions, and inherit each other's property — just like married couples! (Minus a slew of other rights.)

I am sure they will feel a anti-gay mandate was passed with Walker's rescue.

There have been near confrontation and some arrests in past years....the youth tend to organize counter anti-gay protests....and the cops are usually there in riot gear protecting the hate speech across the street from the festival gates.

that we are forced to put up with this bullshit every time there is Pride. Time to go picket their hate churches and give them a little taste of their own medicine. Sick to death of their arrogance.

let this put it to rest. When their vitriol has reached a level that they wish to destroy the ability of members in committed relationships to visit their other half during times of health crisis, there can be no question that it IS a war on civil rights, and not the highly touted "we just want to defend the sanctity of marriage" bullshit they spew.

I have several friends who live up in the Milwaukee area, and I've already linked this to them via Facebook, with the recommendation to go ahead and arrange for a medical power of attorney and living will just in case. When the CTN (Christian Terrorist Network) is looking to do everything they possibly can to destroy your rights and liberties, you can't have enough documentation to back your rights up.

I'll be waiting for the court challenge with my checkbook at the ready for this one.
