Jewish organizations say that anti-Semitism is distinct from other types of discrimination, should not be conflated with other issues.
Jewish organizations worldwide expressed shock and dismay over the weekend following the announcement that the European Unions Fundamental Rights Agency is planning on holding a conference that implies an equivalence between anti-Semitism and Islamophobia.
The first Annual Colloquium on fundamental rights in the EU, entitled Tolerance and respect: preventing and combating anti-Semitic and anti-Muslim hatred in Europe, will be held in Brussels in early October. It will focus both on the rise of anti-Jewish sentiment and violence across the continent and the growing evidence in many European countries, especially in the past two years, of very high rates of anti-Muslim incidents, including acts of verbal and physical violence, according to organizers.
However, while the issue of Islamophobia is very important, Jewish community leaders both in Europe and abroad told the Jerusalem Post, they stressed despite being largely supportive of the FRAs work, they believed it inappropriate for it to juxtapose hate directed against Muslims with anti-Semitism as if both were one and the same.

(42,641 posts)When Charlie Hebdo has depicted both Jews and Muslims with crude stereotypes worthy of a Nazi newspaper, which is worse? They are both examples of blatant ethnic hate.
How does one rate some hate as more hateful? Is there a top ten list of most hateful hate, and if so, where does hatred of blacks fit in the list? Or hatred of native peoples in the US?
