An Israeli politician has made a campaign promise to legalize gay marriage if she becomes prime minister in the March elections.
Tzipi Livni made the pledge at a weekly gay party called Dreck in Tel Aviv on Saturday night (21 February).
The Hatnuah party leader will become one of two rotating prime ministers if her coalition with Labor wins.
'Good evening Dreck. There's a chance that on March 20 we'll come to celebrate the end of the period of darkness, racism and discrimination and we'll start a period of light, love and equality,' she said.
'Everyone will have respect and everyone can love and everyone can get married. And that's the state that we want for all of us.'

As I have said I am very pleased to see you were unbanned from the LGBT group in our own DU , happy for the progress, but you still do not know about us Gays .... PM me and I will be happy to share some resources with you.

(25,699 posts)You seem to believe so, at least in the case of Palestine. Tell me of the improvements to LGBT lives caused by brutalization of Palestinians, Dave. Does Israel's blackmailing of gay Gazans into risking their lives as informants liberate them in any way? has Israel invented the bomb that only kills straight people? When it beats, arrests, kills, and dispossesses Arabs, does it check to make sure they're 100% heterosexual first?
And if it did, would that make it okay?
King_David
(14,851 posts)Others are willing to overlook such abuse and bigotry and extremism and subjugation. As long as it sticks it to the Jewish State everything else is acceptable and flexible.
Well I got news for you , LGBT rights are not expendable... No matter what anyone's cause of the day is.
Gay rights are paramount.... There is no excuse....
NONE!!!!!

(25,699 posts)How does killing and oppressing Palestinians help gay people, including gay Palestinians?
Because you apparently support killing and oppressing Palestinians. And you keep citing LGBT rights as justification for this support.
Also, do you think hanging a rainbow flag over the bombing campaigns, the beatings, the killings, the evictions and demolitions helps the cause of Palestinian gays?

(25,699 posts)1) I think we can agree that LGBT rights are human rights. correct? I personally hold all human rights as being equal, I'm not sure if you do, but i'd like to think so
2) We can also agree that gay people have it pretty bad in much of the Middle East.
So. Where do we diverge?
From your posts here, and in other threads, I get the impression that you think oppression and abuse against Palestinians - violation of their human rights - is somehow given a pass by Israel's better-than-Syria record on LGBT rights. As if one cancels out the other or something. From your posts here, it seems that you believe IS' murders of gay people somehow justifies israel's abuses against Palestinians. At least it reads that way to me.
if I'm not reading you right, maybe you could set me straight, let me know what's really going on in your mind, Dave.
My position is pretty simple. It's good that Israel is moving forward on GLBT rights. However that progress does not excuse israel's abuses in other areas. And i find it very puzzling that some people would try to make the case otherwise.
I would also like to know if you think hurting Palestinians is going to help gay Palestinians.

(12,606 posts)LGBT Israelis or Palestinians?
Does an Israeli, whether they are LGBTQ or not, have more rights than any Palestinian living under Israeli apartheid or not?
If Nothingyahoo had any balls he would have visited an Illegal Israeli colony and state the obvious: that they are illegal.
It's cery nice to go to campaign at a club instead of facing reality.

Any state or territory denying any semblance of rights and actively discriminates agains LGBT doesn't deserve to exist , doesn't deserve our aid and doesn't deserve our support.

(12,606 posts)The answer that you were missing was that both Israelis and Palestinians should be equal, but it appears that you can't even manage to state that in your narrow world view.
But it is alright to actively discriminate against Palestinians, dave.
That is what you are really saying.

This list is derived from just the bare-bones basic right of being gay without being arrested, tried, imprisioned, and possibly killed. A few on the list allow for female homosexuality, but really, we all know injustice for some is injustice for all, right?
So Dave. How shall these nations be blasted from the face of the earth?
By the by, interesting fact: Homosexual activity was legal in Palestine (Well, the West bank) thirty-two years before it was legal in Israel. Go figure, huh?
King_David
(14,851 posts)But for us progressives and us Gays and our friends it is EXTREMELY important.
32 years and still so backward, especially in Gaza but pretty backward Gay-wise in West Bank too. Shamefully so.

(25,699 posts)I find it puzzling though that you declare that.. what's that, roughly a hundred nations, "do not deserve to exist."
Tell me, are abuses against GLBT populations the only human rights abuses that worry you? It's sure reading that way. Which is really puzzling, because it's not like you have to forfeit some human rights to get others, you know? That is, it's entirely possible to support human rights for gay people, human rights for Palestinians, human rights for women, and human rights for Kenyan albinos all at once. You don't have to trade off one against another.
