Israel's facing worsening international isolation, warns Foreign Ministry paper

Classified document lists possible consequences of diplomatic deterioration, including tighter economic and academic boycotts, restricted security imports and loss of US support.

Itamar Eichner

Israel's worsening position on the world stage is expected to decline further in 2015, claims a Foreign Ministry report, which warns that more sanctions could be on the way.

The classified document, sent by the Foreign Ministry to Israeli missions worldwide, warns of possible diplomatic damage to Israel due to "moves to mark settlement products, stop the supply of replacement parts; debates on sanctions against Israel; demands for compensation for damage caused by Israel to European projects in the Palestinian territories; European activity in Area C, under Israeli rule; and more."

The significance of a worsening diplomatic situation is clear: European states will not only continue to advance diplomatic steps such as recognition of a Palestinian state, but will at the same time wok on an economic level to hurt the Israeli economy.

The classified document, penned by the Foreign Ministry's deputy director-general for coordination, Gilad Cohen, is a summary of an multi-ministry situation assessment conducted by Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman.

How will Israel respond to the cooling of diplomatic ties?

How will it respond to the financial and economic boycott?

How will it respond to the academic boycott?

How will it respond to damage claims of european organizations for damage caused to their projects by the IDF in palestinian territory?

and the Republican party is more than willing to encourage that in fact Ted Cruz is offering a bill to move the embassy to Jerusalem, something that ToI admits will most likely fail foreign policy is not within the purview of the legislative branch, but that won't stop them - the question seems more is this good for Israel?

It's not meant for Israel. Ted Cruise works to promote Ted Cruise just like Bibi Netanyahu works to promote himself. Cruise is only doing this since he knows a move of the Embassy to Jerusalem will play very well in JesusLand.

It will help to promote Cruise with the crazies.

So the haters should all rejoice.

Even if Israel pulls out of the W.Bank and starts helping the new Palestine economically, Israel will have to respond (as any country would) to inevitable terror attacks on its major population centers. The minute that starts, Israel will be blasted on the world stage again, as if the there were no Palestinian state at all. War crimes, etc. It won't stop. The haters simply won't let it stop.
