Pro-Palestinian Billboards Are Popping Up In Los Angeles

More than 30 billboards displaying an image of the late Nelson Mandela, along with a quote of his supporting Palestinian rights, have sprung up across the Los Angeles area.

The campaign, which began locally in early December, is the latest in a national effort by Ads Against Apartheid, a Massachusetts-based nonprofit whose stated goal is “to impact public opinion through highly visible advertisements exposing the Israeli government’s oppression of the Palestinian people, its occupation of Palestinian territory and its brutal system of apartheid.” The group was co-founded by Chadi Salamoun, a teacher and former journalist of Christian-Lebanese background, and Richard Colbath-Hess, a Jewish-American faculty adjunct at the University of Massachusetts–Boston.

Although Ads Against Apartheid has previously run advertisements in Boston, Chicago and Dallas, the timing of this campaign — which features the former South African leader’s quote, “Our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians” — is particularly significant, according to a press release from the organization.

“Palestinians, particularly those in Jerusalem, are facing some of the worst repression in years,” it states. “Excessive use of force by the Israeli police, rapidly increasing settler violence and restrictions on access to the Haram Al-Sharif (Temple Mount) have lead Palestinian communities all over Israel/Palestine to protest, and in a few tragic instances, to commit acts of violence.”

The Ads Against Apartheid billboards and the Mandela quote used on them have roused the ire of a few local Jewish organizations, including the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).

mentioned the Palestinians and freedom or something to that effect.

I'll have to go look it up. It's been a while since the erroneous post was made.

Perhaps that poster can come back and admit that the Palestinians should be free in their own land now.
