http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/189177#.VKDa2Z0OAs"We must clarify in the clearest terms to the world that every unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state will bring Israeli sovereignty," declared Danon in a meeting with Likud activists in Judea's Gush Etzion region.
Prime among the attendants at the meeting were Kiryat Arba Regional Council head Malakhi Levinger and Deputy Gush Etzion Regional Council head Moshe Savil.

Erekat announced last Friday that the UN will likely vote on Monday on a unilateral PA resolution, which demands recognition, Israeli withdrawals from eastern Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria by 2017, and prior to that a 12-month deadline for wrapping up negotiations on a final settlement.
"Declaring sovereignty" sounds so much nicer than stealing land that does not belong to one, now doesn't it?

Is there something that Danny Dannon said that bothers you so?

(6,834 posts)"Judea and Samaria" then they also MUST grant citizenship to all who live there. No second class 'residents' or other verbiage.
Note: I do not support Israel annexing 'Judea and Samaria'. Instead I think that they need to withdraw (unilaterally if need be) from the WB with the exception of the city of Jerusalem, which was never intended to be a part of Palestine under any partition agreement.

(6,834 posts)it was supposed to be an international city under UN auspices. But the UN long ago abroggatted that duty, when the failed to lift a finger to defend it against Jordan's invasion or do do anything against Jordan while Jordan controlled it (or even when Jordan annexed it).
By the UN failing in their duty, the city falls to who controls it, which is Israel.
It would be difficult, if not impossible to have controlled border crossings within the old city if you were to try and divide it.

(45,850 posts)and now you claim what that Israel has a right to Jerusalem?
sabbat hunter
(6,834 posts)did they send any troops to defend Jerusalem against Jordanian aggression? Did the lift one finger to free it between 1948 and 67. The answer is no. It is tragic that the man was killed, but that does not relieve the UN of its duty.

(45,850 posts)The agreement with Jordan was signed on 3 April 1949. The main points:
No provision of this Agreement shall in any way prejudice the rights, claims and positions of either Party hereto in the ultimate peaceful settlement of the Palestine question, the provisions of this Agreement being dictated exclusively by military considerations.
Jordanian forces remained in most positions held by them in the West Bank, particularly East Jerusalem which included the Old City.
Jordan withdrew its forces from their front posts overlooking the Plain of Sharon. In return, Israel agreed to allow Jordanian forces to take over positions in the West Bank previously held by Iraqi forces.
Exchange of territorial control: Israel received control in the area known as Wadi Ara and the Little Triangle in exchange for territory in the southern hills of Hebron.

(6,834 posts)Jordan annexed the entire WB and Jerusalem. However in the 1980's they declared that annexation, and any claims to the WB and jerusalem null and void.

(30,109 posts)Historic Palestine never had a Palestinian leader prior to Arafat, nor a Capital.
There was no distinct Palestinian culture, no Palestinian currency, no Palestinian language, or religion.
In fact, a century ago the Jews of that area were commonly referred to as Palestinians. The Arabs and Muslims of that area never saw themselves as part of any distinct Palestinian nation with its own culture, leaders, capital, etc..
Yet ANOTHER narrative buster for you.

(6,834 posts)that there was never an independent state of Palestine, but there was an area (a mandate, or a province depending on the time period) know as either Palestine or Syria-Palestina (which is why Syria has claimed that all of Israel and Palestine belongs to it, along with Lebanon). But there also was never an independent state of Kurdistan, that does not mean there are not Kurdish people.
That being said, since neither existed as an independent nation, nor are the borders of either everlasting, having changed over the years depending on who ruled, borders that crossed over different countries, etc, permanent boundaries of each need to be negotiated.
IMHO all of the WB, with the exception of the old city of Jerusalem, should go to Palestine, and Israel should withdraw (unilaterally if need be) and its citizens should leave with them. Yes there were Jews living in the WB area prior to 1948, but they left/were expelled. Just like some Palestinians in what is now Israel did. If there were any Jews in the WB after 1948 but before 1967, and stayed there to the current day, they should be allowed to stay, just like any Arabs who were in Israel after 1948 stayed and became citizens of Israel.
shira
(30,109 posts)The Palestinians do not, and that's a major difference as the Jews of that area were known as the Palestinians just a century ago.
That's not to say I'm against a peaceful 2 state solution. I'm totally in favor of it based on the '67 lines if it means real peace.
