A three-month-old baby girl has died of the injuries sustained in what Israeli police believe was a terrorist attack in Jerusalem.
Another eight people were injured, as a car ran over commuters waiting at the Ammunition Hill light rail train station in the city.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said the driver was shot by security forces as he attempted to flee from the scene.
Rosenfeld said there was "a strong possibility that it was a terror attack", adding the alleged attacker was already known to authorities and had a record for security related offences. He was being treated at a local hospital with moderate to serious wounds.

Ma'an version of the story:
Palestinian shot by Israeli police in Jerusalem
JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- A Palestinian man was shot and severely injured by Israeli police on Wednesday after his car slammed into a light rail station near the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of occupied East Jerusalem.
Eyewitnesses said Abd al-Rahman al-Shaludi, 20, was shot by Israeli guards at the light rail station after he lost control of his vehicle and hit commuters standing nearby.
Eyewitnesses told Ma'an that al-Shaludi had exited his vehicle after striking the pedestrians, at which point he was shot in the back by the guards.
The eyewitnesses stressed that the incident appeared to be an accident, not a terrorist attack, as had been reported by Israeli media.

Latest Update: 10.22.14
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lashed out at Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday evening, following a deadly terror attack in Jerusalem that saw a 3-month-old baby killed.
President Reuven Rivlin also commented on the attack, saying At such difficult times, our hearts are with the bereaved family and we pray for a quick and complete recovery of the wounded.
"This is how Abu Mazen (Abbas') partners in government work," Netanyau said, referring to the Palestinian unity government comprising Hamas and Fatah that Israel has consistenly opposed. "This is the same Abbas that only a few days ago called for harming Jews in Jerusalem."

(30,099 posts)Violence rocked Jerusalem on Wednesday both before and after a deadly terror attack at a Light Rail station left a baby girl dead, with riots and stone throwing reported in East Jerusalem. The attack and riots have highlighter the police's struggle to deal with what some are calling a 'quiet intifada'.
A man was lightly wounded after Palestinians pelted his car with stones near Beit Hanina in East Jerusalem. Damage was also caused to the vehicle, and police were searching the area for suspects.
Dozens of Palestinians, some masked, rioted in Isawiya and Silwan in East Jerusalem, with some throwing stones at police, who attempted to subdue the riot. No injuries were reported but residents of the Mount Scopus area reported breathing issues as tear gas from the riots reached the area.

(30,099 posts)His mother was quoted by the Wadi Hilweh Information Center as saying that her son suffered mental health issues after being released from Israeli prison custody in March, where he was allegedly tortured.
On the day of the incident in Jerusalem, she had taken al-Shaludi to see a doctor who referred her to a psychiatrist and booked an appointment for Nov. 9.
The family say he was assaulted and threatened while serving three different prison terms, the first of which was in September 2012.
