Thousands of Palestinians mourned the deaths Tuesday of two Palestinian men suspected of kidnapping and killing three Israeli students in June, the Jerusalem Post reports. A massive funeral procession honoring Marwan Kawasme and Amar Abuysha moved through the streets of Hebron, featuring mourners waving Palestinian and Hamas flags. Both Hamas-affiliated terrorists were killed after they opened fire on Israeli troops moving in to arrest them.
Many Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza celebrated the initial kidnapping of Eyal Yifrach, 19, and 16-year-olds Gilad Shaar and Naftali Frenkel, in June. The terrorists were previously jailed in both Palestinian Authority and Israel and were actively involved in terrorist activities on behalf of Hamas.

(12,778 posts)WTF is wrong with those people? Besides it just being ghoulish to celebrate the kidnapping of two teenagers, any idiot should have seen that this would provoke a response from Israel.

(3,022 posts)about the people who were reported, with pictures, gathered on the hilltop by Sderot watching the shelling of Gaza like it was a keen fireworks show.

(3,022 posts)it sure look like it's a party. The participants appear to be cheering at the explosions a lot like when people gather around in my neighborhood to celebrate Independence Day.
Snip-Last Wednesday night, as he stood on a hilltop outside the Israeli town of Sderot and watched the bombardment of Gaza on the plain below, a Danish newspaper reporter snapped an iPhone photo of about a dozen locals who cheered on their military from plastic chairs while eating popcorn.

(5,397 posts)The crowd cheering the bombing of Gaza are from Sderot, the town that's been the primary target of qassams for the past few years. Is it really surprising that they'd rejoice in seeing Israeli rockets striking back at the place that's caused so much terror and strife for themselves?
I'd also like to point out the difference between watching explosions from afar versus celebrating the kidnapping or deaths of individuals, particularly when they're known to be innocent, unarmed kids. You can see the difference in how Israelis reacted to acts that more closely resemble the abduction, like the subsequent settlers' torture and murder of an innocent palestinian youth. With few exceptions the response was one of outrage, not celebration.

(45,850 posts)as a factor here not that it's much of a surprise, something I've grown quite used to seeing here, not by you necessarily but framing the 2 sides as equal is common place enough, but you take into account Sderot's oppression by Palestinians as a factor, also when noting Israel's response to the young Palestinian boy being burned alive you seem to leave out that the facts were known a relatively short time after the incident despite the fact that a 'rumor' was started and promoted by ProIsrael publications that the boy was an honor killing by family members because of his sexual orientation, with one going so far as to claim that 'Arabs' had already been arrested for the crime, whereas in the case of the Israeli youths it was weeks before it was publicly known they were indeed dead and that the Israeli authorities had known this all along however had used the pretext of finding them alive to justify a pogrom against West Bank Palestinians called Operation Brothers Keeper.
all of this is simply to put things into perspective

(85 posts)Understand a bit more about the dynamic of the occupation and the institutional arrest and detainment without charge that goes on in the West Bank and Gaza.
"they" celebrate because for each Israeli that is kidnapped-there is a possibility of a prisoner exchange. Families of prisoners celebrate in hopes that their loved ones may be part of an exchange.
Not all who are rounded up are criminals, or terrorists.

(25,699 posts)D'ya know that as dodgy as Wikipedia can be, the editing guidelines forbid the use of phrases like "many people believe" or 'some people day,"etc? Such usage is flagged for revision / deletion because they are "weasel words."
I'm certain I can find five people - "many" is an unquantified numerator! - who believe any old crazy bullshit.
But the point of the algemeiner isn't to inform you of events. It's to provoke exactly hte reaction you posted - to make you disgusted towards Palestinians (and Arabs in general), to make you hate them, to bring justification to their killing and oppression. TO make you believe they are subhumans, below consideration, deserving of all Israel brings to them.
