Hamas will not renew rocket fire at Israel in the foreseeable future, Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon told reporters on Tuesday.
"There are no signs (rocket) fire from the Strip will resume at the end of the month, with or without the renewal of the ceasefire talks in Cairo," the defense minister said.
"We're working to stabilize reality on the ground by increasing the (Gaza) fishing zone to 6 miles and allowing more trucks through the Kerem Shalom crossing, from an average of 250 a day to an average of 380 a day."
Ya'alon said Israel, UN Middle East envoy Robert Serry and the Palestinian Authority will introduce a special supervision mechanism within a month that would allow the passage of construction materials into the Gaza Strip for the first time in a year, including for the private sector. These construction materials are meant for the rehabilitation of Gaza after IDF attacks caused extensive damage to structures.

(55 posts)If there was more rocket fire, people would say Israel got nothing for all its maneuvers. But this is evidence that mowing the lawn actually works and should be done every three years.

(30,099 posts)IDF searching for impact site in the Eshkol Region; no injuries or damage
mortar shell was fired from the Gaza Strip towards Israel on Tuesday evening, the IDF confirmed, the first since a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas on August 26.
The Red Alert rocket warning system did not sound and the IDF said it was searching for the impact point that was believed to be somewhere near the border fence in the Eshkol Regional Council.
Army Radio reported that Eshkol residents heard an explosion nearby.
No injuries or damage were reported.
However, Ynet reported that the rocket may have landed near the fence inside the Gaza Strip.
The fire came hours after Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon said he did not think Hamas would resume rocket fire on Israel.
Eshkol Regional Council head Haim Yallin said that it was still unclear whether the launch was part of a Hamas training session gone wrong, or whether it was directed at Israel, Ynet reported.
We will not accept sporadic fire at our communities, he added. Israels leadership will evaluate how it chooses to protect its residents. We expect the government to act to bring quiet to the region.

A mortar shell fired from the Gaza Strip landed in Israeli territory on Tuesday, the first time since the end of the recent war between Israel and the Palestinian factions in Gaza, the Israel Defense Forces confirmed.
There was no word of injuries or damages.
Hamas said it had no knowledge of any mortar attack on Israel and that the Palestinians factions remained committed to the truce. "There is no sign a mortar bomb was fired from Gaza and Palestinian factions are committed to keep the agreement for calm, and eager to maintain it," spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said.
There were no casualties or damage from the incident, an Israeli military spokeswoman said after authorities located remnants of the shell near a community close to Gaza's border.
Earlier on Tuesday, Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon estimated that fighting would not resume with the Gaza Strip at the end of this month, despite the difficulties in reaching a permanent Israel-Hamas cease-fire agreement.
