Hamas used violence and threats against UN personnel in Gaza during Operation Protective Edge, The Jerusalem Post learned from credible sources this week.
During the operation, Hamas was hiding weapons in facilities run by UNRWA, and firing rockets from close proximity to its schools, it was discovered. UNRWA workers were subject to Hamas threats at gun-point during the operation.
In a number of incidents, Hamas terrorists threatened to kill UNRWA personnel if they revealed that the Islamist group was using the UN facilities for purposes of war, to ensure that they would not speak out about Hamass activities.
Details have also emerged of the fate of medical supplies and food that were intended to be distributed by UNRWA to residents of Gaza in need of humanitarian aid. On a number of occasions, armed Hamas operatives forcefully confiscated the supplies, taking them for their own use.

(8,170 posts)The facilities were empty schools, UNWRA reported the breach and Hamas removed the stored missiles despite the probable threats made by lower rank Hamas terrorists.
No-one doubts that Hamas are terrorists and that they are just as vicious as extremist members of the IDF.

Intaglio apparently misses that UNWRA was severely criticized for this.
It was a war crime to give the missles to Hamas, knowing Hamas was going to fire those missles at civilians. UNRWA said it didn't know what else to do. It should have had UN Peace Keeping Forces ship the missles to the IDF. Or it should have notified the IDF, which could have made a ground attack to take away the missles. This was how UNWRA could have avoided a war crime. Instead UNRWA showed its bias, which is not unexpected since it deals day to day with Palestinian casualties and never with Israeli casualties.

(8,170 posts)UNWRA (whose personnel are unarmed and not trained to dismantle or destroy missiles) finds missiles in its facilities (which renders all such facilities liable to destruction by the IDF). These missiles are guarded by armed members of Hamas (who, instead of shooting the members of the inspection team, tell them not to touch the missiles). UNWRA negotiates the removal of these missiles despite the threat to themselves. And this makes UNWRA (rather than the IDF or Hamas) guilty of war crimes.
