President Obama Encouraged by Ceasefire in Gaza

President Barack Obama and the White House are encouraged by the ceasefire currently in place in Gaza.

"For weeks, the United States, from the president to the secretary of state on down, have been actively engaged with the Israeli and Palestinian leadership to try to bring the violence to an end," White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said.

Earnest says the on-going talks in Egypt could lead to a permanent halt to the month-long war.

He says both countries must have the same goals for the violence to stop.

Earnest pointed to the significant progress Israel has made in destroying Hamas tunnels as a reason for them to stand down.

Israel accepted that ceasefire immediately and unconditionally.

Hamas ? What did they gain?

Tunnels demolished , most of the dead of 1700 innocent civilians.

A humiliating defeat. Absolutely nothing gained ...
