Finnish TV: Rockets from Gaza hospital

Reporter for Helsingin Sanomat confirms longstanding Israeli claims that Hamas missiles launched from the Shifa compound

A television reporter from the Finnish Helsingin Sanomat confirmed Friday that Hamas has been firing rockets out of the Al-Shifa Hospital.

The reporter, who was not named in the television segment shot on-site at Gaza City’s main hospital, said a rocket was launched “right in the back the parking lot” of the hospital at 2 a.m. on Friday morning.

“Really, it happened right in the area, the sound of it was really loud,” she said, confirming longstanding Israeli claims that Hamas is committing war crimes in the Gaza Strip by shooting from civilian concentrations, medical centers and other humanitarian institutions.

“It’s true that rockets are launched here from the Gazan side into Israel,” she said.

Foreign press in Gaza has scarcely reported on Hamas’s rocket launching strategy during the conflict, beyond the bare numbers and statistics.

After Israeli press caught wind of the video it went viral, prompting the journalist to urge: "Don’t use me as your propaganda weapon."

The reporter responded to the video through a post on her Facebook page, writing: "Don’t use me as your propaganda weapon.

"I spent a night at the Shifa hospital in Gaza two weeks ago. I was covering the situation in Gaza for my newspaper.

"My story was about the Palestinian civilians who were victims of war. My article started with a story of four little boys who were killed on the beach the same day. The Shifa hospital was full of women and children who were victims of this ugly war. I described their stories in detail.

"During the night someone launched a rocket somewhere behind the hospital. Now this sentence from my article is spreading in the pro-Israeli medias. I mentioned this in my article because I’m a professional journalist. I try to cover the events truthfully as I see them and I strongly condemn these kind of actions.

"But I find it very disgusting how this one sentence was taken out context to be used as an excuse to target civilians in Gaza. My story became quickly a tool of propaganda. The people sharing this story are not even trying to understand the situation as a whole. They are just looking for excuses to Israeli actions in Gaza. I refuse to be part of this kind of propaganda."

It's what she reported.

She can try change the narrative but not the facts .

Oh if only she could pull her report ? No she can't it's out there for everyone to see and well it seems Hamas got caught.

Which, in a roundabout way, sounds like you must also be fine with
Hamas' actions. If you don't really care about civilian casualties, on
what footing do you stand to complain about Hamas' rockets?

Well, I mean, unless you want to be a hypocrite.

All I know is that killing one groups of civilians seems to be
a concentrated form of evil and killing another group of
civilians seems to be little oopsies...if that.

So I'm sorry, I can't see a reason other than hypocrisy
or a differing value of human life.

Personally, I just think killing civilians is wrong.

once you get going. You can't really not read them.
Repetition I guess.

To the point though, I'm glad that you seem to agree that killing civilians
is wrong. I'll await your condemnation of civilian casualties (all of them).

At the end of the day, if you are someone who supports either side's
military actions, you're supporting some form of offense against civilians.
Whether it's indiscriminate rockets (which thankfully have killed few) or
bombing which, regardless of positive or negative spin people of any opinion
put on it, has killed many civilians, it is disgusting. Both (militarily active) sides
have perpetrated wrongs. To condemn one is to condemn the other, to excuse
one is to excuse the other.
I excuse the offenses of neither.

Immunize the others responsibilities to the Geneva conventions.

Why is that so difficult to understand?
