Netanyahu says more 'stages' to come in Gaza operation

At the end of Operation Protective Edge's third day, PM states campaign to continue, expand; premier gives no indication of when, whether IDF will send ground troops in to Gaza Strip

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu emerged from a marathon security cabinet meeting Thursday at the end of Operation Protective Edge’s third day saying the campaign would continue and expand.

Netanyahu issued a statement saying that the operation was progressing as planned, and that “more stages were expected.”

He said that Hamas and the other terrorist organizations operating from Gaza had been hit hard by the IDF attack, and would be hit even harder as the operation continues.

The prime minister gave no indication of when or whether ground troops would be committed to the campaign, nor what steps needed to be taken by the other side for Israel to halt the operation.

...Did you mean this most recent paroxysm of stupidity amid the last wheezing gasp of European colonialism?

1) Three Israeli teenagers are kidnapped in the West Bank, and killed.

2) At the same time, someone (probably Islamic Jihad, they've been frisky of late) starts lobbing the occasional rocket over the fence.

3) Netanyahu vows "vengeance" against hamas for the deaths of the teenagers; also holds Hamas responsible for the rocket attacks. Also hamas made his coffee get cold while he was tweeting all this.

4) Netanyahu makes good on his promise, arresting hundreds, beating dozens, killing seven in the west bank, all targeting hamas' political structure and supporters. As it turns out, Netanyahu knew the three boys were dead during all this vim and vinegar.

5) Meanwhile rockets keep coming, Israel keeps firing back. Nobody's hitting much of anything.

6) Three Israelis - and possibly more - kidnap and set a little Palestinian boy on fire in Occupied Jerusalem. Palestinian and some Israeli Arab communities protest and demonstrate, resulting in more pummelings and, if i recall, two more deaths. One of those beaten to a pulp is an American citizen; the US feigns "shock," probably at the fact that this almost reached mainstream US news.

7) israel begins five days of intensive return fire against Gaza, leading to the current named operation. Netanyahu is still blaming Hamas for pretty much anything he can.

8) two days ago Hamas obliges, taking credit for some of the rockets fired that day; they had not taken credit for any others, and had been denying their involvement.

9) and so here we are.

I had heard about the horrific kidnappings and killings. Didn't know if that was what is at base of this current conflagration.
