Settlers cut down 60 olive trees near Nablus

http://www.maannews.net/eng/ViewDetails.aspx?ID=693179

NABLUS (Ma'an) -- Settlers from the Israeli settlement of Yitzhar on Sunday chopped down more than 60 olive trees belonging to Palestinian farmers south of Nablus in the northern West Bank.

Ghassan Daghlas, a Palestinian official who monitors settlement-related activities in the northern West Bank, told Ma'an that a group of settlers raided a neighborhood known locally as Al-Luhuf and chopped down more than 60 olive trees using chainsaws in private fields in the village of Huwwara.

Ghassan Daghlas said that the fields belonged to Murad Tawfiq, Bashir Audah and his brother Audah as well as Nayif al-Zeifa.

The area around the villages south of Nablus is a frequent site of settler violence and Palestinian clashes with Israeli forces as it is located beside the notoriously violent Israeli settlement of Yitzhar.

This is what we can expect from Israel and their illegals: take Palestinian property, destroy what is on it and impose the imprint of colonist Israel on it.

But you won't have to wait long, mu fellow DUers. Soon the usual misleading hasbarist will be along to claim that the lands being stolen by illegal settlers is somehow disputed.

Anybody who grows fruit trees will understand.

It is more than just destroying property, or a source of income.
The trees themselves, after years of protecting, nurturing, and tending become a part of the farmer himself,
like family.
To have them butchered by chain saws in a single afternoon?

I might be angry enough to kill.

It takes care, time and patience to produce a living thing capable of bearing fruit. To have somebody come along and butcher your work is extreme violation.

Has in one claw arrows. In the other an Olive branch.

Signifying war, the arrows are a warning.

Signifying peace, the Olive branch harks back to the day when growing olive trees meant making peace with your neighbors, since one had to settle down in one place to grow and harvest from the trees.

Israel has now marked itself as anti-peace by letting this happen. Israel is not a friend of peace any longer.
