When Israel is attacked, Jews must step up

by Sarit Catz

October 2, 2013

If you’ve been trying to get into New York City lately, especially anywhere on the east side, you know that traffic is jammed because of the United Nations General Assembly. And the traffic is not the only frustrating thing about the United Nations.

Regularly, the UN and its various committees, commissions, conferences, and councils single Israel out for censure and condemnation. And make no mistake: It’s not really about Israel. It’s about Jews. Famously, in 1975, the General Assembly adopted a resolution equating Zionism with racism. No other national self-determination movement has ever been condemned like this. Years later, the reprehensible resolution was repealed. Even so, as the watchdog group UN Watch has reported:

The legacy of 1975 remains fully intact: UN committees, annual UN resolutions, an entire UN bureaucratic division, permanent UN exhibits in New York and Geneva headquarters — all dedicated to a relentless and virulent propaganda war against the Jewish state. Together, they have made the UN into Ground Zero for today’s new anti-Semitism, which is the irrational scapegoating of Israel with the true intended target being Jews. Not only do these anti-Israel measures incite hatred against Israelis and Jews everywhere, but they have done not a thing to help the Palestinian situation. On the contrary: they give strength and succor to extremists.

But still, do you really equate every bit of criticism of Israeli security policy with "attacks on Israel"?

Has it ever occurred to you that some people criticize the Occupation and the settlements because, in addition to those things being an injustice against Palestinians(punishing all for the crimes of a few)those policies may actually ENDANGER Israeli security?

If you really want a secure Israel, you need to work to end the mistreatment and collective punishment Palestinians are subjected to. Maintaining the status quo does more to endanger Israel than a thousand "peace processes" ever could. There's no real security in goading the people Israel oppresses into greater and greater rage.

The OP openly equated virtually all criticism of Israeli government policies with antisemitism...something that is demonstrably not true.

It seemed obvious that the intent of the writer whose column you linked to was to silence discussion and to try to make American Jews and everyone else who self-identifies as "pro-Israel" feel obligated to denounce and attempt to stop all public debate on issues like the settlements and the collective treatment of Palestinians in the West Bank.

Didn't seem to be much ambiguity there.

perhaps some of us actually want to hear what the poster has to say? Maybe i should get to decide if what he says is "hurtful" over the top" or just mean? Maybe i want to know what he really thinks?

who do you think you are attempting to decide what i should or shouldnt know about? Are you protecting me from something?

In the future if you dont like a post you should perhaps comment on the post and tell the poster just how "mean" he is, but let us others decide if we do in fact want to read or not, its not for you to decide and by doing so your actually restricting the conversation.

Well that is probably for the best. Though I have found the jury system to be not great on occasion.

And because it targeted King David for personal attack.

I don't agree with the King on much, but his sexual orientation should never be part of the discussion.

Scoots, if you're reading this, it's one thing to disagree with KD on his views, but why do you even care if he's gay or not? How is that remotely relevant.

And Pelsar, I'm not protecting you...I mean, dude, you've had combat training, and I couldn't protect you if I tried...I'm protecting this forum from inappropriate debate. Debate and discussion should always be about ideas, not the posters themselves.

And the post was hidden, not deleted, so you could have looked at it anyway.
