In Brooklyn and Jerusalem, worry about Israel's future
BROOKLYN, N.Y. Yosi Azan was one of several Jewish men gathered at a kosher market on Coney Island Avenue who was worried about the future of Israel.
"I'd like to have peace, but I'm worried," said Azan. "I'm really scared about the future of the world."
The Israeli government "needs to stand up for the Jewish state of Israel," said Steve Lehrman, who was doing some food shopping in a city that has the largest Jewish population outside of Israel.
The two spoke ahead of the speech at the United Nations by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who warned that the world must act to prevent the Islamic state of Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
On Tuesday, Netanyahu said Israel faces a regime that has more than once threatened to wipe out the Jewish state and that is close to obtaining technology that could allow it to carry out the threat. He vowed that Israel is here to stay, and even if it has to act alone, it will do all that is necessary to prevent harm to Israel.
