Palestinian threatens woman with knife, arrested

A Palestinian man in his 20s was arrested Monday morning in Kfar Tavor after he threatened a woman with a utility knife. A police officer who resides nearby arrived at the scene and subdued the suspect, a resident of the West Bank city of Tulkarem who is residing in Israel illegally.

The man was taken in for questioning at a police station in Afula. During his interrogation, the Palestinian said he held the knife to the woman's throat because he was "hungry." Investigators are trying to determine whether the incident was criminally or nationalistically-motivated. The suspect will also be questioned by the Shin Bet internal security service.

Police officers said the suspect arrived by car to the 68-year-old woman's home in Kfar Tavor, located in the Lower Galilee region. He stepped out the vehicle, approached the woman and pressed the knife against her throat. Another woman who witnessed the incident alerted her husband, a police officer at the Afula police station. The officer arrived at the scene with his gun drawn and ordered the suspect to drop the knife.
