Award-Winning Director Boycotts Haifa Film Festival To Protest 'Apartheid'

Award-winning film director Mira Nair has decided to boycott September's Haifa International Film Festival in protest of Israel's "Apartheid" policies, she announced on her Twitter account Friday.

Nair said Friday that she had been invited to Israel as a guest of honor at the Haifa International Film Festival with her new film The Reluctant Fundamentalist, an adaptation of the Mohsin Hamid novel of the same name which boasts Kate Hudson and Liev Schreiber among its stars.

"I will not be going to Israel at this time. I will go to Israel when the walls come down. I will go to Israel when occupation is gone," Nair wrote.

"I will go to Israel when the state does not privilege one religion over another," she continued. "I will go to Israel when Apartheid is over."

Pakistan is OK though?

Don't they privilege one religion over another?

Is the country not called "The Islamic Republic of Pakistan"?

Bizarre that she finds Pakistan alluring and has attending screenings of her films there, yet has a problem with what she sees as Israel privileging one religion over another.

I guess maybe it depends on the religion?

Mahmood Mamdani has been fairly scathing on the matter.

Or her new film.

That is unfortunate, as it looks terrific. The novel it was based on was quite engaging.

I recommend you check it out! (FYI: It's all about Pakistan)

You also - quite surprisingly - don't seem to know much about her current husband. Especially considering how active he has been on the BDS circuit.

As a wise person once told me, Google is your friend.

7. What a hypocrite. She takes funding from Qatar

Qatar, that bastion of human rights:
http://www.bollywoodlife.com/news-gossip/mira-nairs-the-reluctant-fundamentalist-picked-up-by-doha-film-institute/

A Mirabai Films and Cine Mosaic production, the film is adapted by Bill Wheeler, Mohsin Hamid, and Ami Boghani and produced by Lydia Dean Pilcher. It has been picked up for financing by the Doha Film Institute (DFI). It is the second major international production to receive financing from the institute.

And what is the DFI? Just another racist oil-sheikh money laundering scheme. It may come as no surprise to you that although they claim that “Eligibility for DFI Grants has been extended to films from all nations“, Israel is not part of their world.

Remember, this is a desert Islamic oil playground.

Qatar has the highest ratio of non-citizens to citizens in the world, with nationals comprising approximately 12 percent of the population. Forced labor and human trafficking are serious problems. A new draft media law was passed that may jeopardize Qatar’s reputation as a center for media freedom, and a poet was sentenced to life imprisonment. Local media tend to self-censor, and the law permits criminal penalties, including prison terms, for defamation.

Gee, d’ya think Nair will boycott Qatar?

Of-course not, oil money corrupts.
