Obama is promoting, not proposing, peace

By DOUGLAS BLOOMFIELD

... Even if he wanted to, President Obama knows another US peace push wouldn’t work. All the rhetoric aside – and it really is little more than rhetoric – neither side is interested in, much less ready for, serious peace talks.

At best, they may be ready to talk about talking about peace. A diplomat who spent many frustrating years trying to broker Israeli-Palestinian peace now says they are so far apart that “neither side believes the other is committed to a two-state outcome.”

Ambassador Dennis Ross, in a weekend New York Times op-ed, as if to demonstrate how remote the chances of progress are, proposed 14 confidence-building measures just so the two sides can get to the point where they’re willing to begin talking about the core issues.

There will be no American peace plan simply because neither side is ready or willing to move toward real reconciliation, preferring instead to pursue short-term domestic interests while fully engaged in playing the blame game ...

It's why Obama (he underscores that there is no "daylight" between him and Netanyahu) doesn't want Palestine recognized as a state, as existing in any way as an internationally recognized entity with even the least sort of "human rights". It's a GAME and has been a game for decades, and now it looks to be the endgame. Israel is moving quickly to take formal steps to recognize "Judea" and "Samaria" as legal entities. It's speeding up actions in area C. It's consolidating the settlements that currently exist while further isolating Palestinian communities in segregated zones, so no contiguous state is possible.

In the DU I/P group the existence of "Palestine" as a historical entity is flatly denied by pro-Israeli speakers. It's denied that the Palestinian people have roots in the land. The existence of Palestinian villages, bulldozed to nothing and the people forced into exile, isn't recognized as fact. The existence of segregated communities in Israel is denied, and some pro-Israeli speakers are even claiming that the west bank settlements are integrated, fully democratic, and that various interventions like the introduction of segregated bus lines is .... is .... well ... if anyone can make head or tail of the DU I/P pro-Israel defense of that kind of shit they sure haven't posted the argument here.

I see NO light from Obama re. justice in the I/P conflict. I expect a great and totally meaningless speech.
