Palestinians, Israeli Soldiers Clash In West Bank

RAMALLAH, West Bank (AP) -- Palestinians have clashed with Israeli troops during rallies across the West Bank in support of hunger-striking Palestinian prisoners and against Israel's security barrier.

Mohammed Samhan of the Red Crescent says dozens of protesters were treated for injuries caused by rubber bullets and tear gas inhalation on Friday. Israel's military says hundreds of Palestinians threw rocks and firebombs at the soldiers.

The protesters demanded the release of Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike in Israeli jails, warning of backlash if any of them die.

RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Two people were critically wounded by live fire on Friday as hundreds of protesters rallied across the West Bank to protest the death of a Palestinian prisoner last week.

Mahmoud Audah, 20, was shot in the head with live fire during clashes with Israeli soldiers at Qalandia checkpoint, locals told Ma'an. He was transferred to Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem where he is said to be in a critical condition.

Palestinian journalist Jihad al-Qadi was shot in the abdomen by Israeli forces while covering clashes outside Ofer detention center, Ma'an's correspondent said.

Al-Qadi was operated on by doctors and had to have part of his liver removed.

Palestinians race to disrupt Israeli marathon

JERUSALEM (Ma’an) – Israeli police on Friday stopped a Palestinian protest "marathon" organized against an Israeli event that takes place annually in occupied Jerusalem.

Palestinian racers started off in the historic Lifta village to counter the Israeli marathon that began from the Knesset building, said Dimitri Diliani, a senior Fatah official.

Diliani told Ma'an that “Palestinian youths participating at the marathon handed the Israelis a formal paper written in English explaining what this marathon really means for Jerusalem.

“A few Israelis who didn’t know the truth behind this marathon actually left,” he said.

The official added that Israeli police attacked Palestinians participating in the protest marathon and detained them for an hour, but the activists turned the detention into a new protest.
