Yityish Titi Aynaw, a 21-year-old from Netanya, was chosen Miss Israel 2013 on Wednesday night the first Ethiopian-born contestant to win the title.
Aynaw, who came to Israel with her family when she was 12, was entered into the competition by a friend, and had no previous modeling experience.
She said during the competition that she hoped to go into modeling to change attitudes to dark-skinned models. Id love to become the first Israeli (TV) host, the Tyra Banks of Israel.
Interviewed on Thursday, Aynaw, who served as an officer during her military service, said her integration into Israeli society had been greatly eased because she had been thrown into the deep end in the state school system, and I learned to swim, rather than placed in separate Ethiopians-only classes.

(25,699 posts)It's okay to take a breather now and then, man. What, do you think think this is some sort of plot? Really? A beauty pageant? (eh, forgive me if it's more involved than that, that's just what "Miss ________" contests usually are)
She's a lovely woman who has a strong story behind her. Nothing wrong there.

(17,086 posts)Those are always legit. I'm sure she is perfectly worthy to be the winner of a subjective contest - congrats to her. I still find it incredibly fortuitous for others as well. I probably shouldn't judge this occurrence based merely on appearance, but somehow it just feels right, so I'll stick to my subjective opinion.

(53,959 posts)She has a big job ahead of her if she is tackling the issue of darker-skinned models, but I wish she wouldn't compare herself to Tyra Banks, that woman is off her nut!
Of course, as we see above, it is just one giant Israeli conspiracy. That's how you know it is positive news.

I'm not into all of this and I don't know if it has to do with politics, but it may be a sign of unity.
