Founder Of Anti-Israel BDS Group Calls Out Critics At Brooklyn College Event; Takes Swipe At Mayor Bloomberg

Brooklyn College pulled off a forum with anti-Israel speakers Thursday night after a week of heated controversy over the event.

“I’m really happy it happened,” student Rustan Ganiev, 20, said afterward, calling the talk a “victory for the First Amendment.”

One forum speaker, Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement activist Omar Barghouti, said politicians who slammed the college’s political science department for sponsoring the event were trying to suppress free speech.

“We’re witnessing the rise of a new McCarthyism in this country led by Israel, its lobby groups and defenders of the denial of basic Palestinian rights,” Barghouti said before the forum, referring to 1950s Communist-hunting U.S. Sen. Joseph McCarthy.
