Fatah, Hamas Agree To Unite Over Gaza Crisis

AFP - Rival Palestinian factions Fatah and Hamas said on Monday they have decided to end infighting in a show of solidarity in the West Bank over the Gaza crisis, an AFP reporter said.

"From here, we announce with other (factional) leaders, that we are ending the division," senior Fatah official Jibril Rajoub told a crowd of about 1,000 who gathered for a demonstration in Ramallah, the West Bank's political capital.

Among those present at the rally were top members of Hamas's leadership in the West Bank as well as senior officials from its smaller rival Islamic Jihad, the AFP correspondent said.

Ramallah's Manara Square was a sea of Palestinian flags as the crowd chanted "Unity!" and "Hit, hit Tel Aviv" in an appeal to Hamas militants who have fired at least five rockets at the coastal city since Thursday.

1. Typical. Overly emotional. Wonder how long this

"rapprochement" will last -- until someone decides that he wants the top spot and can profit from pushing himself into a leadership war.

We need to put real UN troops on the ground to patrol the border and immediately apprehend anyone who commits violence -- from either side.

Why aren't modern surveillance techniques being used on that border. Early warning of missiles and gunfire would be helpful.

Why is that particular spot in the world allowed to be so chaotic when it could cause the entire civilization to blow up any minute?

Let's get neutral UN troops to patrol the borders.

2. What country would risk their troops ?

Neither the IDF or Hamas would let the UN arrest their troops. And Gaza is so small that you could never get enough troops on the ground to make a difference militarily.

For that matter, what country with the military power to make this meaningful is also neutral? Can you name a couple of countries?
