According to Israels Channel 2 news, the broadcasts were replaced with IDF radio playing messages of warning to Gazas residents, and announcing another stage in operation Pillar of Defense aimed at crippling Gazas terror infrastructure.
Important notice to residents of the Gaza Strip, said the broadcast, Hamas is playing with fire and risking your lives in vain.
For the sake of your safety we call on you to obey our instructions and avoid getting too close to infrastructure and activists of Hamas, warned the IDF.
A diplomatic source in Jerusalem told The Algemeiner that Hamas radio airwaves reach the entire Gaza Strip.

(57,936 posts)Why don't Palestinians stop their violence? They have the support of so many Arab countries. They have nothing to fear from peace. If they want territorial concessions from Israel, they need to guarantee that Israelis can be safe within their territory. Each side needs to guarantee safe borders for the other.
Neighbors should be able to live in peace. Neither side should throw rocks or grenades or drop bombs on the other.
I do not blame Israel for defending itself. It is small and isolated. Hamas and Israel need to finally sit down and negotiate peace and then, Hamas and Israel need to work together to enforce that peace.
As a rather small person myself, I understand why Israel is so quick to defend itself. It is surrounded by enemies. In fact, Jewish people need Israel because they have not been treated as human beings in other places they have lived. They cannot be safe anywhere else, not in the long run.

(33 posts)If Israeli troops were here and set up Martial Law, patrolled our streets all armored up carrying automatic weapons with back up from armored vehicles and aircraft, breaking down our doors with impunity, stopping anyone at will, stealing our land and bull dozing our homes. I'd be angry enough to start killing them too. Rockets landing in their back yards would be the least of their problems! Ive about had it with this so called ally of ours using American tax dollars to commit evil acts!

(57,936 posts)sovereignty, you had better believe I would be furious and support my government's efforts, whatever they were, to gain the respect of those countries.
A lot of DUers are totally unaware of the history of the Middle East. They know what happened in 1948 but are unaware of the aggressions and wars that have occurred there, completely unaware of the intolerance and aggressions of Muslims.
So many people are so upset about the Crusades, but do not know that the Crusades were a response to Muslim aggression in Europe. It is a blind spot in the education of Americans and some Europeans.
Did you know that Constantinople, now Istanbul, was once the center of Christendom and that it was taken, its Christian population brutally massacred and that the Turkish Muslim armies got as far as Vienna?
Yet we hear so much about the Crusades.
Do I feel sorry for Palestinians? Yes. The answer for them is to make peace. If they show a genuine willingness to make peace and punish Palestinians who throw rocks or other things at Israel, there will be enough Israelis who will vote for peace. Israel, after all, is a true democracy. The Israeli people will force their government to choose peace or will choose a government that is peaceful if the Israeli people feel they can be safe within reasonable borders. That is the way of democracies.
Hopefully, Palestine will develop stronger democratic institutions and also choose peace.
