CAIR: Interfaith Coalition Decries Hate Group Leader's Appearance at L.A. Jewish Federation

<snip>

"A Southern California interfaith coalition today expressed "deep shock and alarm" over the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles' decision to offer a platform to the leader of an anti-Muslim hate group.

Pamela Geller, who will deliver a lecture this morning on "Islamic Jew-Hatred: The Root Cause of the Failure to Achieve Peace," is co-founder of Stop the Islamization of America (SIOA), an organization designated as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), and author of a book offering step-by-step instructions on how to stop mosque construction in America."

Jewish Federation branch cancels Pamela Geller event after interfaith outcry

<snip>

"The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles has canceled an event this afternoon that was set to feature anti-Muslim activist and blogger Pamela Geller.

The event attracted attention last night when an interfaith coalition of activists sent out a press release denouncing the decision by "a mainstream Jewish organization" to host "one of the nation's leading Islamophobes." The LA branch is part of the Jewish Federations of North America, an establishment Jewish organization that has 155 branches across the country.

Geller promptly took to her blog to denounce the "craven capitulation of the Jewish Federation to Islamic supremacist Jew-haters."

Why I am using ‘Israel firster’ again
http://mondoweiss.net/2012/06/why-i-am-using-israel-firster-again.html

The reason Israel Firster became so explosive in 2012 is because (1) this is the year the lobby wants the United States to either attack Iran or allow Israel to do it and (2) this is the year in which tens of millions of dollars of unregulated campaign contributions are flowing to the Republican candidate for president simply because the single-issue crowd believes that Mitt Romney is the candidate most likely to fit comfortably in Netanyahu’s pocket.

A perfect example of how irrational hate leads to stupidity.

Seems MJ has fallen off the deep end since his dismissal from Media Matters.

Most people who are giving huge campaign donations have other priorities. By definition, those capable of giving huge campaign donations are the rich. Rich campaign donors usually have two main priorities: (1) to stay rich; (2) to get even richer. Except for a small minority, Israel is not the priority.

If someone really is an 'Israel-firster' then they're probably an Israeli! If they are not, then they are probably about to be an Israeli: Israel strongly encourages immigration.

Like people are waiting with bated breath to see if he will or will not use the term "Israel firster" again.

That said, he is generally a tad more reasonable than most of the Mondoweiss crowd (including Phil himself).

Conservative blogger Pamela Geller says L.A. federation nixed her speech

http://www.jta.org/news/article/2012/06/24/3099026/conservative-blogger-pamela-geller-says-la-federation-nixed-her-speech

I am confident this will have a strong impact on the achieving of their ultimate goals.

that Geller's vile views are not being given more respectability.

She will no doubt find other outlets for them; but she cannot pretend that they are endorsed by mainstream Jewish, or American, opinion.

I have a particular hatred for her because she supports the far-right English Defence League in the UK.

I think it shows that they are able to prevent respectable groups from sponsoring speakers who defame Islam and Muslims.

with CAIR being one, so who were you speaking of and what do you believe "their" goals are? LB seemed to think it was CAIR and you seemed to go along with it

As I wrote in that post, CAIR was successful here in achieving one of their main goals which is to prevent the defamation of Islam and Muslims.

9. Jewish group cancels speech by controversial author Pamela Geller
Mon Jun 25, 2012, 08:18 AM
Jun 2012

Pamela Geller, the controversial author and activist, was set to deliver a lecture Sunday morning to the Zionist Organization of America that she had given many times before, billed by organizers as a revelation of the "root cause of war in the Middle East."

But instead of taking her place before the few dozen people inside the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, Geller and those who had come to see her milled around the sidewalk on Wilshire Boulevard. The Jewish Federation, just hours earlier, canceled the event.

Cancellations, just like death threats — "I have a huge file of death threats," Geller says — are something of an occupational hazard, particularly after the Southern Poverty Law Center deemed her organization a hate group. Both Jewish and Islamic associations have condemned her as a "fear-monger."

But in this instance, she said, the Jewish Federation "cravenly submitted to Islamic supremacists who wanted to suppress free speech."
