Alice Walker’s bigotry

By ALAN M. DERSHOWITZ 06/21/2012 21:41

Pulitzer Prize-winning author Alice Walker, has resorted to bigotry and censorship against Hebrew-speaking readers of her writings.

Pulitzer Prize-winning author Alice Walker, who has a long history of supporting terrorism against Israel, has now resorted to bigotry and censorship against Hebrew-speaking readers of her writings. She has refused to allow The Color Purple to be translated into Hebrew.

This is the moral and legal equivalent of neo-Nazi author David Duke disallowing his books to be sold to Black and Jewish readers.

------------snip-------------------

Walker participated in unlawful efforts to break Israel’s entirely lawful military blockade of the Gaza Strip – a blockade designed to prevent Hamas and other terrorist groups from bringing to Gaza weapons that are aimed at Israeli civilians.

In doing so, she has provided material support for terrorism, in violation of the law of the United States and several other countries.

Palestinians suffer under apartheid conditions in Lebanon.

Women, gays, and christians are persecuted in both Gaza and the W.Bank.

Alice Walker only cares if "hebrew" speaking people can be blamed, whether for real or imaginary offenses.

Israel is an occupying force. The Palestinians and Lebanon have been living under an illegal occupying force for a long, long time.

The longer the occupation goes on, the crueller it gets.

Alice Walker is sane, which I'm not sure that the zionists in Israel and abroad are.

Who is presently occupying Lebanon?
Are you counting Hezbollah as occupiers or something?

3. Alice Walker - bigot? - I don't think so

What kind of person is Alice Walker? She's a great writer, but that doesn't really define her as a person. I'm happy to say that I met Alice Walker in Managua Nicaragua back in the 1980's when progressives from all over the world were visiting the country to show our support for the revolution and our strident opposition to the Contras who were receiving illegal support from the Reagan administration. She was/is a progressive that actually puts her views into action. Does that make her a supporter of terrorism? Nope - it makes her a hero.

5. She's pretty tight with the boys from Hamas and the IHH....

From her flotilla days...

Turkey is now investigating IHH for funding al-Qaeda. IHH already funds Hamas (Jew haters extraordinaire, holocaust denying, Protocols of Zion believing terrorists who will never recognize Israel).

Alice Walker hasn't once condemned Hamas rocket attacks or advocated for Hamas' Israeli victims. Must be something to do with the "hebrew" language she's boycotting.

Walker reminds me of Vanessa Redgrave. Remember her support of the PLO back in the 70's when all the PLO was about was the destruction of Israel and killing of Jews? Peas in a pod.

Also a bit muddled - why would black and Jewish people want to buy David Duke's books?

But that just added to the general "WTF?!" nature of my response to The Dersh-Man's (*) latest eruption of bile. Not really surprised to see it faithfully put out here, complete with energetic defense from certain sources.

(*)--and if anybody here gets that reference and remembers that guy, you might need to take a long look in the mirror and have a long conversation with yourself, because something has gone very, very wrong.

I think that Alice Walker is wrong, but this is a character assassination that obscures the real points.

'This is the moral and legal equivalent of neo-Nazi author David Duke disallowing his books to be sold to Black and Jewish readers.'

Why would any Black or Jewish readers WANT to give any money to the vile David Duke by buying his vile books?

It just so happens Walker's views on I/P are extremely similar to Duke's. Pro-Hamas agenda, sanctimonious WRT Palestinian rights, merciless WRT Jewish rights.

One is a bigot par excellence, the other is also a bigot.

20. Antisemitism with a literary glow: Alice Walker’s ugly caricature of Israeli Jews
Fri Jun 22, 2012, 11:00 AM
Jun 2012
“Jesus, a Palestinian – is still being crucified.” (Alice Walker’s blog, per CAMERA)

“(((Israeli))) settlers are the [Ku Klux] Klan” (Alice Walker, during interview with Jesse Rosenfeld.)

“I think Israel is the greatest terrorist in that part of the world. And I think in general, the United States and Israel are great terrorist organizations themselves.” (Alice Walker, Foreign Policy, in June, 2011.)

“I feel that the Israel that many Jews dreamed of having – that one is gone. That’s demolished. I think it’s time for people to accept that. Because what you have now is something that is so frightening. Israel is as frightening to many of us as Germany used to be.” (Alice Walker: Why I’m joining the Freedom Flotilla to Gaza, Guardian, June 25, 2011).”

The literary foot-stomping which is Alice Walker’s recent refusal to permit her book ‘The Colour Purple’ to be translated into Hebrew – bizarre as it is – can hardly have come as much of a surprise to anyone familiar with the writer’s history of anti-Israel activism. Neither does the Guardian’s decision to showcase extensive sections of Walker’s letter of refusal to the would-be publisher exactly come as a shock.

Walker is a long-standing activist in the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement (BDS), and indeed allowed her letter to the Israeli publisher which requested permission to translate the book to be posted on the website of PACBI – the Palestinian Campaign for Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel – which leads and sets the tone for the BDS campaign.

PACBI does not aspire to a two-state solution – it promotes the ‘return’ of millions of descendants of Palestinian refugees, thereby rejecting the existence of Israel within any borders....

...PACBI founding member and steering committee member Omar Barghouti believes (mistakenly) that:

“International law does give people under occupation the right to resist in any way, including armed resistance”.
