ISRAEL: FUNDING OF LGBT PROJECTS INCREASED

Israel’s Ministry of Culture approved a NIS 220,000 to fund LGBT projects in 2016.

Tel Aviv’s LGBT Center received a budget increase from the Ministry of Culture to fund cultural activities in the community. This is an increase of over 100% in support, in relation to the four previous years. Among the projects supported : Galgal Theater, that brings together actors of all ages for shared theatrical projects, and Hagayzmerim – Tel Aviv’s Gay Men’s Chorus.

Etai Pinkas, chairman of the Tel Aviv’s LGBT gay center, said: “Increasing budgets for LGBT cultural activities expresses the unique and important role of the LGBT center in the creation of the contemporary urban Israeli culture. You don’t have to be a supporter of the minister [Miri Regev, Minister of Culture] to assess the proper step that was taken here. This is the place to call for more budgets directed to progress the LGBT community, until we achieve full equality.”
