Related: About this forumPalestinian gunmen open fire on Qalandiya checkpoint
Mahmoud Abbas' very own Fatah party. The "moderate" Holocaust denying, inciter of terror against Jews - Mahmoud Abbas.
Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, Fatah's military wing, claimed responsibility for the attack, which did not result in any reported injuries.
The brigades said they would continue to target Qalandiya checkpoint, as well as Israeli settlements, settlers and soldiers, in order to "defend" the Palestinian people.

(3,967 posts)Palestinian leadership are hoping to draw Israel into an all out civil war, thinking their Arab and Muslim brothers and their western allies will come in like the cavalry to I've them everything's they want. And why shouldn't they believe that, as this is the rhetoric they hear every day. Hopefully it will not come to all out civil war, but if they keep using violence trying to force Israel to act, this is a risk. Should that come to pass, they may gain more sympathy but in all other ways will be far the worse for it. Bad for everyone (maybe not those who gain a sense of moral superiority from Condemning Israel).
Is Kerry in Israel tamping things down right now? Perhaps he could ask Abbas to keep his Fatah gunmen from attacking Israeli military points.

(26,060 posts)To pull Israel into cracking down and then showing photos to the world about how the Israeli's suck. And the far left will lick it up like ice cream while their leadership, once again, lets them down. Lather, rinse, repeat.

(6,171 posts)The Al Aqsa Martyrs aren't supposed to attack Israelis anymore, that was the deal. I hope this isn't a sign that the PA is losing its authority.
