Petition demands MSNBC fire reporter after misleading report on Jerusalem terror attack

A petition calling for the firing of MSNBC reporter Ayman Mohyeldin, who came under fire after suggesting Israeli police shot and killed an unarmed Palestinian man in a stabbing attack in Jerusalem last week, had garnered over 13,000 signatures by Tuesday. The petition was started over the weekend.

Bassel Sidar was shot dead outside of the Old City’s Damascus Gate in a failed stabbing attack. Border Police in the area identified a suspicious looking Arab man, a 19-year-old Hebron resident, wearing camouflaged clothing, sitting by the east Jerusalem gate’s entrance. When police asked to search Sidar, for a weapon, he withdrew a knife from his pocket and charged the officers.

Mohyeldin, who was reporting live from near the Damascus gate, stated that he hadn't seen any stabbing attempt. “He did not look to be particularly armed. Again, that was confirmed by the fact that the police ultimately removed his clothes,” the reporter added. “The police didn’t find any explosive devices on him. I was trying to keep an eye to see if they were taking anything off of his body perhaps. If they took a gun…there was no gun that was visible. At one point, we can clearly see from where we were standing, from where his body was lying, his hands were open and both of his hands did not have knife,” he added.

Anchor Jose Diaz-Balart interrupted Mohyeldin as a picture flashed on screen of the terrorist and said, "But in the video that we have that you have… we can clearly see the man in camouflage t-shirt and pants with what appears to be at least in his right hand, a knife." The picture featured a man matching the description of the terrorist holding a five inch black blade in his right hand, walking down the stairs....

2014 Israel–Gaza conflict
On July 16, 2014, Mohyeldin witnessed and reported via a series of tweets, the death of 4 Palestinian children who were playing soccer and hide-and-seek on a Gaza beach during the 2014 conflict.[12] The first missile killed one child and the second killed the other 3. The killings were witnessed by many in the international press. Just moments earlier Mohyeldin was kicking a soccer ball with these boys in front of his hotel. The attack happened as a result of Hamas using the beach as a location to launch missiles at Israel[13][14]

Although Mohyeldin was a live witness to the event,[15] NBC correspondent Richard Engel reported the story from Tel Aviv. NBC followed by pulling Mohyeldin from Gaza and terminating his reporting duties from Gaza indefinitely. Engel was sent to replace him in Gaza.[16] NBC has been subsequently criticized by independent media outlets for removing Mohyeldin. NBC has not explained its actions[17] and reasons for pulling Mohyeldin.

he also reported extensively on the Egyptian revolution while working for al Jazeera in 2011

also you aware Israeli security killed a Mizrahi Jew thinking he was a Palestinian and claimed he had tried to grab one of the officers guns, well until the victims actual ethnicity was revealed in any event ?

But in the video here he maintains the man was unarmed, until this point:

Anchor Jose Diaz-Balart interrupted Mohyeldin as a picture flashed on screen of the terrorist and said, "But in the video that we have that you have… we can clearly see the man in camouflage t-shirt and pants with what appears to be at least in his right hand, a knife."

The picture featured a man matching the description of the terrorist holding a five inch black blade in his right hand, walking down the stairs.

Mohyeldin immediately backtracked on his statement, saying, "The point I was trying to make was that when they flipped the body over... it was at that point that his hands were empty."

Saying that a man wielding a knife was unarmed, and going on and on about how they killed an unarmed man, is not just an error.

However, we don't know what it is like to be in the midst of such violence. After witnessing this - probably over the course of just a few seconds - he may have been convinced the man was unarmed, and reported such. Then, instead of an 'oops' moment when the knife was pointed out to him, he may have tried to cover up his mistake by pretending he was making a different point. If this is true, he would've been a whole lot more credible had he admitted he totally missed seeing the knife.

you see in the current situation all any Israeli has to do is claim he/she has what looked like a knife and any Palestinian man woman or child can be killed with no consequence

It looks like a knife and that the reporter made a mistake. If it was intentional, he should be fired. If it wasn't, he should explain himself. His career is clearly on the line over this.

And doomsayers are gonna doomsay, and be right once in a while but always wrong in the longer term.

Actually the markets are up 4% in the last couple of weeks on very good employment, inflation, profit, and productivity numbers for the US economy.

Remember some people get rich warning you you'll go broke. And that's left and right --both have ignorant and fearful elements. Listen to Thom Hartmann or Michael Savage and you'll hear them pitch different versions of the same paranoid fantasy, because gold ripoff schemes are their advertising bread and butter.

I bought stocks like crazy in Aug and September. It was a damn fire sale. I've made a nice hit, covered my cost basis, and made a nice dent in the kid's tuition bill. But by all means keep believing the sky's falling ANY DAY NOW! I'd love to get some more $108 a share Apple stock.

29. Moyheldin's other lies...
Sun Oct 25, 2015, 12:45 PM
Oct 2015
During Operation Protective Edge last year, NBC pulled Mohyeldin out of Gaza after he sarcastically accused Israel of killing four teens in a Facebook post, writing: “The #US State Department Spokesperson just said that #Hamas is ultimately responsible for #Israel shelling and killing 4 boys who were cousins aged 9-11 because Hamas didn’t accept the #ceasefire. Discuss among yourselves.”

He was later sent back to Gaza, where he reported that an Israel drone had struck a hospital. NBC was forced to delete a portion of his report in which he claimed that he had seen an Israeli drone fire at the hospital. An Italian journalist who had actually witnessed the attack confirmed that Hamas, not Israeli forces, had been responsible for the rocket strike that destroyed the hospital.

Moyheldin also denies Hamas used human shields. Here's video...
