Defense minister denies Israel knows who killed the Dawabshas

http://www.timesofisrael.com/defense-minister-denies-israel-knows-who-killed-the-dawabshas/

During Ya’alon’s later briefing with reporters he dismissed the remarks attributed to him, asserting that the exact identities of the perpetrators were not yet known. However, he added, “we have some general ideas of who carried out the attacks.

“That’s why we’ve carried out administrative detentions and signed restraining orders — to prevent more incidents,” Ya’alon said.

...

Knowing the group responsible for the attack is not the same as knowing who threw the bomb, said Elran, who leads the homeland security program at the Institute for National Security Studies.

“Knowing who is responsible in a general sense,” he added, “does not mean that we know who carried out the attack.”

Original story: We don't put them on trial because trials are hard.

New story: We won't put them on trial because we identifying suspects is hard.

Reminder that Israel bombs the shit out of Gaza blaming "Hamas" without knowing which individuals are responsible for a given terrorist atrocity. But, there's no punishment when Jews do the crime.

Ya’alon, echoing comments made by a senior IDF official earlier this week, dismissed speculation propounded by some right-wing Israelis that the attack was carried out by Palestinians.

And who was it on here that hinted at the same ????

“It is one of the most extremist groups, whose goal was to set fire to the area and harm many lives,” Ya’alon explained, “much more than the ‘price tag’ attacks we have come across.”

He means Kach .

Who are Kach and where do they originate from ????

Media reports after the attack quoted security sources as saying that the attackers had fled on foot in the direction of nearby settlements. However, a gag order was placed on details of the investigation, and it still remains in force.

You will get no further details until the gag order is lifted .

In the meantime read this :

http://972mag.com/yaalon-casts-doubt-that-dawabsha-family-will-see-justice/111601/

The report offers very few clarifications and there is a sweeping gag order on the entire investigation, but we can draw a number of possible conclusions from Ya’alon’s seemingly deliberate leak.
..................

(I asked the State Department to comment on the administrative detention of U.S. citizens at the time. I received the following response from a spokesperson for the Bureau of Consular Affairs that I didn’t deem worthy of publication at the time: “We have seen the reports that a U.S. citizen is being detained in Israel. We take our obligation to assist U.S. citizens detained overseas seriously. We stand ready to provide all possible consular assistance. Due to privacy considerations, we have no further comment.”)

So we do not know if the three men being held without charge or trial are in fact suspects in the Duma murders. If they are, however, we can presume that Ya’alon was referring to them and the decision not to put them on trial.

I think it's important to remember where the previous Foreign Minister has his political base.

4. Somehow, I think that bringing the murderers to justice is the last thing the Israeli authorities

want.

Besides, it would set a difficult legal precedent if Israel started treating the murder of Palestinians as being equal to the murder of Jews.

Israel being Jewish and Democratic doesn't allow for equal treatment, that's the law.
