An IDF ambulance was pelted with stones in the Israeli-Druze village of Hurfeish early on Monday by locals who believed that it was carrying injured Syrian jihadists seeking medical care in the Jewish state.
The Israeli army vehicle, carrying spillover casualties from the Syrian civil war, was stopped early in the morning outside the town and surrounded by several residents who demanded they be allowed to inspect the passengers, police said.
As the ambulance pulled away, it was pelted with stones, and one 54-year-old local man was left injured, apparently after he was hit by the military vehicle.
Israel routinely takes in and treats Syrians injured in the civil war, and the IDF has set up a field hospital along the border to that effect.
In the event that members of the minority group flee or are uprooted from them homes in Syria by jihadist organizations, the Upper Galilee Regional Council consisting of 29 kibbutzim may take them in.

(58,724 posts)Jerusalem (AFP) - A wounded Syrian was killed on Monday when Israeli Druze attacked an Israeli military ambulance taking him to hospital for treatment, police said.
"A crowd attacked an ambulance with stones near Majdal Shams on the Golan Heights," that was transporting two wounded Syrians, a police statement said, adding that one of the injured "died after the attack".
It said that the second Syrian was in a serious condition, and that two soldiers who were also inside the vehicle had been lightly wounded.
The statement did not identify the Syrians or give further details about their injuries before the attack.

(6,068 posts)although they probably wouldn't be very happy being described as "Israeli Druze" either. You'd think that journalists could manage basic geography.
Probably a good idea if Israel stayed out of the war, and let the Syrians fight it out, if you ask me.

(58,724 posts)But I think that Israeli hospitals treating injured Syrians seems like a positive thing.
There have been some really moving stories of severely injured and traumatized Syrians who have been at least partially rehabilitated thanks to such treatment in Israel. Some have even been young children.
Are you opposed to Israeli hospitals doing this?

(6,068 posts)patching up jihadis and sending them back to Syria to slaughter their relatives is probably not a good thing.
They appear to be making their position rather clear in that regard.

Syrian state media praise Druze attack on Israeli ambulance
BEIRUT
Syrian state media praised Druze villagers in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on Tuesday for attacking an Israeli military ambulance they said was carrying two insurgents from a group fighting President Bashar al-Assad.
The Israeli army said one of the men in the ambulance was killed as a result of the attack it described as a lynching.
The incident in the Golan village of Majdal Shams overlooking Syrian territory was the second attack by Druze on an Israeli army ambulance in less than 24 hours.
It reflected rising Druze agitation over what the community sees as Israel's failure to help embattled Druze brethren in Syria while offering medical aid to Syrian civilians and combatants who include anti-Assad fighters.
