High Court allows Jerusalem Day parade to march through Muslim Quarter

http://www.haaretz.com/news/israel/1.655923

Jerusalem district police commander Maj. Gen. Moshe Adery was invited to the hearing and said that the police intend to document participants shouting racist slogans, arrest them and indict them as necessary. "There will be balance in terms of freedom of movement," said Adery, adding, "we will document, photograph, make arrests and hand files over to prosecutors. We denounce any and all racism and incitement, and are investing vast resources to ensure that the procession goes on peacefully."The petition was filed by attorney Itay Mack on behalf of Ir Amim, and Tag Meir (“Spreading the Light”), a coalition of organizations combating racism. The petition targeted the license given by the police to the parade, authorizing it to pass through the Muslim Quarter despite the fact that the procession disrupts the lives of residents who are forced to remain in their homes. In recent years, the parade has been characterized by numerous acts of racism and violence against Arabs, as well as damage to property at the hands of marchers.

What could go wrong? Will the police arrest Ayelet Shaked and Eli Ben-Davan?

However would the people of the Muslim quarter be given the same right of free expression?

This seems to have the same motivation as the infamous Orange Order marches through Irish nationalists neighborhoods in N. Ireland, or what's that woman, Geller, in Garland, TX who get exactly what they want, a violent response.

The "Muslim Quarter" became the "Muslim Quarter" in 1929 when Muslims started a pogrom and essentially kicked the Jewish families that had been there for some centuries out, killing, raping, and burning. Before 1929, it was a mixed neighborhood. The British barely prevented a small-scale Shoa and only then at great loss of life (on all sides).

Note that this was pre-modern Israel and the resulting conflict.

Northern Ireland, in contrast, was an actual invasion.

I guess it is OK as as well to force other people off their land to build settlements, like Khirbet Susiya.

At one time I was a big fan of Israel but it gets harder and harder to maintain good feelings where I see continued and escalating injustice.

Sounds quite a lot like the Israeli model that is ongoing in Palestine.
