http://972mag.com/next-head-of-civil-administration-said-palestinians-are-sub-human/106533/Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu finalized the formation of a new government this week when he signed a coalition agreement with far-right settler party Jewish Home. As part of the agreement, Rabbi Ben-Dahan will be Israels next deputy defense minister, responsible for the armys Civil Administration.
The Civil Administration is responsible for all aspects the occupation that dont involve boots-on-the-ground security operations it administers planning, building, and infrastructure for both Jews and Palestinians in Area C of the West Bank. It also administers the Palestinian population database and is responsible for granting and revoking entry and travel permits for Palestinians, controlling every aspect of their movement.
In other words, the man slated to take charge of an organization entrusted with supervising the theft of Palestinian land and supervising Palestinians lives, is a racist who said he does not see them as human, but rather as animals (nothing against animals, of course, but we can be fairly certain Ben-Dahan didnt mean it as a compliment). Thats more or less like appointing a member of the local Klu Klux Klan chapter to investigate claims of violence and discrimination against the Baltimore Police Department that is, if Baltimore residents were deprived of citizenship and the right to vote.
This is going to get ugly. I'm not sure how our Democratic leadership is going to be able to back up Israel when they are gleefully skipping down the path of human barbarity.

Sick is what it is, and the best that the "blue and white pom-poms" as you call them can come up with for Israel is fluff articles.
Apartheid, ethnic cleansing, human rights abuses and the monsters of a new government are met with cute and cuddly dog shit.
Their silence is deafening, isn't it?

(58,724 posts)The most fundamental teaching of the Torah is that human beings all human beings, men and women, Jews and non-Jews are created in the image of God.
And God created man in His image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them (Genesis 1:27). It was on that basis that murder was forbidden.
Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for in His image did God made man (Genesis 9:6). When the prophet Amos said, To Me, O Israelites, you are just like the Cushites declares the Lord (Amos 9 ), he was expressing the concept that although Israel has a covenantal relationship with God, there is no inherent superiority in the people of Israel. All peoples are Gods equal creation.
The Sages taught the same lesson. Why was only one human being Adam created? So that no one should say to his fellow, My father was greater than your father (Sanhedrin 4:5). Ben-Azzai said that the greatest principle of the Torah was expressed in the verse, This is the record of Adams line When God created man, He made him in the likeness of God (Genesis 5:1), stressing again that God created all human beings in His likeness. Rabbi Akiva based his theology on the idea that Beloved is man for he was created in the Image; greater still was the love in that it was made known to him that he was created in the Image of God, as it is written, For in the image of God made he man (Avot 3:15).
As the midrash says, I call heaven and earth as witnesses: The spirit of holiness rests upon each person according to the deed that each does, whether that person be non-Jew or Jew, man or woman, manservant or maidservant (Seder Eliyahu Rabba 9).
The pernicious doctrine that Jewish souls are higher than other souls is a perversion of these Jewish teachings and should be denounced as a dangerous heresy. It is dangerous because any such teaching of superiority of one group over another leads to actions in which humans can be treated as inferior, as less than human and eventually can be disposed of as well. We have suffered from this ourselves, and teaching it to our children will only lead to Jews treating others badly, as indeed has already happened. It may be that others who held prominent positions in our governments have held the same view as Ben-Dahan, but at least they never uttered it in public. By doing so, Ben-Dahan has rendered himself persona non-grata and should have the good grace to resign. If not, he should be told to leave. We are constantly asking others to condemn those who speak disparagingly of Jews or Judaism. We have asked more than one pope to change the liturgy so as not to show Jews in a bad light. Should not we ask the same thing of ourselves and denounce any Jewish teaching that demeans non-Jews? Israel must not be in a position in which others can point to us and say, Look what your government is teaching about non-Jews before you complain about what others are saying about you.
As Hillel said, all of Judaism can be encapsulated in the idea that we are not to do to others what is hateful to us (Shabbat 31a). Ben-Dahan has violated that rule.

You do understand, ober, that he is going to be in the new Nutinyahoo government and that a majority of the Israeli electorate made that happen.
If he, as you suggest in the article, has views that are anti-Jewish the what does that say for the majority of Israeli voters?
They have made this possible, right?

The 34th government will deserve Israel; Israel will deserve the 34th government. This is an authentic and representative government, the true manifestation of the spirit of the times and the deepest feelings of most Israelis. It will be a true government, without pretense, without makeup and without self-justification. What well see is what well get. Welcome to the fourth Benjamin Netanyahu government.
They wont talk haughtily and they wont spout hollow slogans. Not about peace and not about human rights; not about two states and not about negotiations; not about international law, justice or equality. The truth will be thrust in the faces of Israelis and the world. And the truth is this: The two-state solution is dead (it was never born), the Palestinian state will not arise, international law does not apply to Israel, the occupation will continue to crawl quickly toward annexation, annexation will continue to crawl quickly toward an apartheid state; Jewish supersedes democratic, nationalism and racism will get the government stamp of approval, but theyre already here and have been for a long time.
Neither Netanyahu, nor Habayit Hayehudis chairman MK Naftali Bennett nor that partys faction members MK Ayelet Shaked and MK Eli Ben-Dahan, started this whole thing. They only expedited things. And there should be no shock or outrage, no bewailing the bitterness of fate. This government is a government of continuation, not a government of change.
True, some of its members are more extreme than their predecessors, but that is mainly about rhetorical differences. Even the most inflammatory appointment, of Shaked as justice minister, which reverberated throughout the world over the weekend, is less revolutionary than it seems. Shaked is blunt and violent, whereas Zionist Union MK Tzipi Livni, her predecessor, was delicate and proper. But Justice Minister Shaked will not have to work hard to break open cracks in our democracy; they opened a long time ago.
The best test of the nature of the regime in Israel is the test of the occupation and the war crimes: the foundations of apartheid are already deep and the war crimes remain uninvestigated. From her office in the heart of occupied Jerusalem, Livni has not made Israel more just in that respect. True, Shakeds ideas are more nationalistic and her understanding of the essence of democracy is nil. True, many in the world were shocked that a person who identified with one of the most violent articles ever written here against the Palestinian people (by Uri Elitzur), was appointed minister of Israeli justice. But theres no place for such sanctimoniousness. Elitzur expressed what many people are thinking.
The appointment of another racist, Eli Ben-Dahan, as deputy defense minister, responsible for the Civil Administration, should not be earth-shattering either. True, Ben-Dahan said that the Palestinians are animals, they are not human, they are not entitled to live but dont these statements reflect the true attitude of many Israelis? Ben-Dahan will speak for them. That is how Israel has been treating the Palestinians for almost 50 years; Ben-Dahan is only saying things overtly. Now he will be responsible for the Civil Administration and the whole system of humanitarian gestures will be torn up. Ben-Dahan is the right man in the right place at the right time. An excellent appointment.
A person who proudly says I killed masses of Arabs and calls them shrapnel in the buttocks will be education minister and who in Israel doesnt think that? The general of Operation Cast Lead, with its crimes, the man who contravened building restrictions, Yoav Galant, will be construction minister. Is that not a fine appointment? MK Uri Maklev of United Torah Judaism is to head the Knesset Science Committee? Does that not correctly reflect the attitude of some Israelis to science?
Stop whining. Maybe Israels shadow government should be more enlightened, but not its real government. It is what the Israelis chose, it reflects their true stands. And so, long live the new government.
