Who? What? Where?

This tiny sliver of territory wants to break off from Moldova. I barely knew there was a place called Moldova, let alone a breakaway region called Transnistra. Sounds like a foot fungus.

they are holding fast against Russia.

Russia is trying to stir up trouble in Transnistria with propaganda.

Transnistria is not recognized as a separate country and elections are considered rigged scams.

Brings to mind the Ukrainians forced to vote pro Russian occupiers at gun point. Remember?
