Trump plans to designate Mexican cartels as terror groups, stirring outcry

MEXICO CITY — Mexico’s government expressed alarm Tuesday after President Trump said he was planning to designate Mexican drug cartels as terrorist organizations, a move that officials here fear could complicate security cooperation and trade between the neighbors.

“Mexico will never accept any action that violates our national sovereignty,” Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard tweeted. “We will act firmly. I have sent our position to the U.S. as well as our resolution on combating transnational organized crime.”

The Foreign Ministry said Ebrard would contact Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to set up an urgent meeting to discuss “this theme of high relevance for the bilateral agenda.”

Trump told former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly in a radio interview broadcast Tuesday that Mexican cartels “will be designated” as Foreign Terrorist Organizations. The president noted that he had already suggested sending the U.S. military to help Mexico tackle organized crime, but was turned down by Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

“I’ve actually offered him to let us go in and clean it out and he so far has rejected the offer. But at some point, (something) has to be done,” Trump said, citing the damage done by drugs to American addicts and their families.

1. Well they do terrorize. They seem like a terror group to me

That's why a lot of Mexicans come to the USA to escape the cartels that have taken over their towns. I know it doesn't happen all over Mexico. But, there are areas that are really bad.

2. He and the republican party could be given that designation

And putin and Kim and Erdogan. trump will abuse his powers to claim they're all that , and use it to strip them of any rights and hold them forever. Will we learn he has been using torture on regular people trying to immigrate, or on children too? This is another way for them to not have to keep records, or documentation on any of these immigrants to get around the laws, and the courts ? Very likely.

3. President Peabrain offered to help them

..."clean it out". The administration that does not but messes up everything it touches. He should keep his mouth shut. But trumpies will eat it up, as always.
