Top Senate Democrat urges Trump to block China deals over North Korea

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The top Democrat in the Senate on Tuesday called on President Donald Trump to block Chinese investments in the United States in an effort to pressure China "to help rein in North Korea’s threatening and destabilizing behavior."

In a letter to Trump, U.S. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer called on the president to use his authority through the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, or CFIUS, to exert such economic pressure on Beijing.

Schumer called on Trump to use the inter-agency committee "to suspend the approval of all mergers and acquisitions in the U.S. by Chinese entities."

"It is my assessment that China will not deter North Korea unless the United States exacts greater economic pressure on China," Schumer wrote to Trump, a Republican. "The U.S. must send a clear message to China’s government."

article in the NYT - no doubt....

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/13/business/dealbook/insurance-china-anbang.html

Where is Mr. Wu..the guy who sought ties with Kushner..Chairman of Anbang..seems the Chinese want to ask him a few questions...

The detention of Mr. Wu is likely to reverberate through business circles in China and the United States.

That unusual structure drew the attention of insurance regulators in New York, who asked Anbang last year to provide more information before it signed off on a proposed $1.6 billion acquisition of a Des Moines-based life insurer, Fidelity & Guaranty Life. That deal, like those for Starwood and the Kushners’ Fifth Avenue office tower, fell through.

Still, Anbang’s opaque structure did not stop the company’s $6.5 billion acquisition of a portfolio of luxury hotels from Blackstone. The deal, with the exception of a hotel located next to a naval base, was cleared by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, or Cfius, as was the purchase of the Waldorf Astoria.
