Jeremy Corbyn tells shadow cabinet: I will choose position on Syrian air strikes

Labour leader defiant in TV interview as he tells shadow cabinet colleagues to 'think again' on bombing and warns plotters: '“I am not going anywhere'

Jeremy Corbyn has warned his shadow cabinet that only he will make the final decision about whether to back Syrian air strikes as the civil war raging inside Labour intensified.

Despite previously insisting he would listen to colleagues, the Labour leader declared he would choose the party’s policy on Syria, saying: “It is the leader who decides.”

Mr Corbyn criticised shadow cabinet ministers for making their backing for the government clear to journalists and demanded they “think again” on military action.

He also hit back at Labour MPs plotting his downfall by saying they failed to realise the party had “changed” since his election, warning the rebels: “I am not going anywhere.”
