Islamic State threatens attack on Washington, other countries

Islamic State warned in a new video on Monday that countries taking part in air strikes against Syria would suffer the same fate as France, and threatened to attack in Washington.

The video, which appeared on a site used by Islamic State to post its messages, begins with news footage of the aftermath of Friday's Paris shootings in which at least 129 people were killed.

The message to countries involved in what it called the "crusader campaign" was delivered by a man dressed in fatigues and a turban, and identified in subtitles as "Al Ghareeb the Algerian".

"We say to the states that take part in the crusader campaign that, by God, you will have a day, God willing, like France's and by God, as we struck France in the centre of its abode in Paris, then we swear that we will strike America at its centre in Washington," the man said.

1. CIA director warns that ISIS has other plots 'in the pipeline'
Mon Nov 16, 2015, 11:06 AM
Nov 2015

The director of the CIA on Monday warned that the deadly terrorist assault on Paris is just a taste of what’s to come.

The coordinated attacks Friday evening, which killed at least 129 people across the French capital, are just the latest signs of a maturing “external operations agenda” that the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) “is now implementing with lethal effect,” John Brennan said.

“I certainly would not consider it a one-off event,” Brennan warned a standing-room only crowd at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

“I would anticipate that this is not the only operation that ISIL has in the pipeline,” he added, using an alternate acronym for ISIS. “Security intelligence services right now in Europe and other places are working feverishly to see what they can do in terms of uncovering it.”

3. I expect they will lash out where they can.

The question is how much they can. I have no idea at this point. One suspects that planning in Syria and organization in Brussels for an attack in Paris doesn't happen every day, too messy, too many traces, too many resources tied up and expended. But a big splashy atrocity, it's very al Qaeda-like.

But the head perp seems to have gotten away, for the moment at least.

Things seem to be shifting internationally too, this attack may prove pivotal.

4. Syria's Nusra Front backs Paris attacks, despite opposition to Islamic State

The Nusra Front, Al-Qaeda's affiliate in Syria, have broken with other Syrian opposition groups to express support for Friday's deadly attacks in Paris, despite the group's official hostility to the Islamic State (IS).

"I am still saying that ISIS are a riding mount of the tyrants and that they are the dogs of hellfire," wrote a spokesperson, Sheikh Abu Mariyah Al-Qahtani on Monday, using an alternative acronym for IS.

"And that they are the ones who ruined the Jihad in Iraq and Syria. And that they kill the Sunnis. But I was happy with their strikes against Hizbu Shaytaan," he said, referencing the French with the Arabic word for Satan.

"We do not declare our innocence towards Allah from every action ISIS conducts, their fight against the Rawafid (Shia) who wage war against the Muslims is something we are happy about. And their fight against Hizbu Shaytaan is something good."

5. Glad Kerry backed off our support for them..back when he urged taking out Assad,

before he backtracked.

Yet, there still seem to be people in our Govt. supporting the different factions in the groups fighting against Assad for control of Syria, although the number seems to be less... At least that's what I've noticed, reading around.

6. The sort of thing that ought to lead a lot of people to shutup, but won't.

The main thing most of those people are supporting is their own careers and egos.

What goes on in our government is much too bizarre to try to predict, but I do get the sense that things are starting to happen overseas. There is an "emerging consensus" that this shit has to stop.
