Thousands of protesters stormed Afghanistans presidential palace on Wednesday and clashed with police in protest of the gruesome beheading of seven ethnic minority Hazaras this week, a sign of growing frustration with the countrys deteriorating security situation.
At least seven people were injured when the crowd, chanting for President Ashraf Ghanis resignation, broke into the heavily fortified palace in central Kabul on Wednesday and were fired on by police attempting to disperse them.
Five suffered gunshot wounds, while two others were injured in the chaos that followed, Afghan health ministry officials said.
The rare demonstration stemmed from mounting anger frustration over the governments failure to curb escalating violence and prevent the Taliban and other extremist groups from making advances into government-held territory.
