The CTA's Red and Purple Modernization Program would completely rebuild the northern portion of the Red and Purple Lines (Belmont to Linden). By replacing century-old stations and track structures, the CTA can meet growing demand and improve service for the next 60-80 years.

Part of the RPM project includes building a Red-Purple bypass north of Belmont station where Red, Brown and Purple Line trains intersect. This 1907-built junction has now capped the CTA's ability to add more trains as ridership grows.
